Running a new R8 model 4 with new version Trimble Access software on a new TSC3. Storing data to the receiver. General Survey, Rover, Start Survey, Static Mode. Run it for 10 minutes or however long. But no data is accumulating. Amount of space on the receiver doesn't change. End Survey. Check receiver and the file is there, but is only 4Kb. It is starting a file but not storing data. Anyone know why?

Hi,
check, in the configurations, where the data is stored: maybe it is stored to the controller.
Thanks, but no, it is stored to receiver.
I changed from rover to base mode and now can collect a file. Is seems that is should be able to collect a T02 raw whether it is set to Rover or Base, but so far, only Base works. It that is my solution, then I am ok with it. If anyone has similar experiences or comment, please share.

Check your collection rate? 4k for 10 minutes at a 30 second collection rate? I may be wrong but that doesn't sound unreasonable
We set our R8 model 3 to always start a session on power up. That means that we never need a data collector to do static. It also means that many small files get created when doing RTK, a minor but inconsequential annoyance. I prefer the minor annoyance to always being able to start a session with or without a DC.
How do you do that?
:good:
You need to connect with GPS Configurator (download from Trimble). Once you connect, go to the log data tab, and then press the Start Logging button. A window will open, and check the Start Logging at Power Up box. Then OK, and Apply.
Try it to be sure, it should start logging as soon as it powers up and locks on to more than 4 SV's. If not, you may have to go to the Config tab and press apply there, I can't remember if this step is necessary.
When you start the static receiver as a rover, the data collector has to stay connected to the receiver, even though you're logging to the receiver memory. When they log as a rover they dis[play the time on point, epochs, etc., and for some reason if you disconnect or power off the TSC3 it will stop logging.
It has also been my experience that OPUS rejects files collected as rovers because something in the file makes OPUS think you're in a kinematic mode. I always start the static sessions as bases, either with Fast Static or with RTK & Logging, and log to the receiver memory.
Or, as someone else suggested, you could create a power up file that has the receiver start logging automatically. Personally I don't prefer that, I like to see it in the data collector.
Thanks for replies.
It's not the epochs, I have it at 1 second and have also tried different settings. File size always 3 or 4 KB.
Start session on power up is not a bad idea, but we will lose the point name on import into TBC.
Lee, about staying connected or losing file, we are logging to the receiver and I am now using the R8 in Base mode. Again that seems to have solved the problem, I'm just looking for confirmation that you must be in Base mode to run a static session.

Can a rtk Base/Rover survey be conducted simultaneously while the base is collecting data when the static base data collection started in this manner?
The best way to run an RTK base and collect static at the same time is to set up an RTK & Logging Survey Style. To do this:
1) Go to your Survey Styles in Settings
2) Highlight the RTK survey that you normally use and hit Copy at the bottom
3) Name the new survey RTK & Logging
4) Go to Base Options and change the Survey Type from RTK to RTK & Logging. Set your Logging Device to Receiver Memory and your Recording Interval to whatever interval you want - I always use 15s but some folks like 5s. I don't really recommend 1, 2, or 10.
5) Accept and Store
You can run in Rover mode if you leave the TSC3 connected to the R8 but I HIGHLY recommend always using Base mode.
I am not sure if Trimble Access is the same as Survey Controler but with controler program in order to collect static data you need to start a static survey and then go to the "measure points" screen to start recording the data.
Yes it can.
Start the base receiver with RTK and logging using a here point, and start the rover in RTK to do the survey - then shift the survey once you've processed the here point.
