Why are there 10-20 Million Mexicans just illegally in the US if it's so "Wonderful" down there?
that's 10,000,000 - 20,000,000 with all the zeros
Mexicans. Mexicans who live there and presumably know it very well.
They don't spend 12 days a year there, at a resort, they spend 365 days there.
The Mexicans bust their azzez and spend $ to get the heck OUT OF THERE.
for perspective.
If you stood them all together with each one having a space of 3'x3'
10,000,000 would be a square almost 2 miles on a side. (9,487 ft)
No Joke.
Bob,
I'm responding to your post saying anyone who travels in Mexico is crazy - I never mentioned how great it is to live there. I will stand my MY opinion that visiting Mexico is a great choice for us choosing a vacation destination - without fear.
keep calm and chive on.
Surveying In Mexico- the FUD
The vast majority of elected representatives, civil servants, and journalists have no personal experience of Mexico and have never been there. Instead, their view of the country is framed by what they consume from the US corporate media.
Surveying In Mexico- the FUD
Americans doing their part in keeping the Mexican Economy moving.
Kidnapping of Americans in Mexico
As the FBI agent says, this crime is rare in the US.
That is, that no Americans are kidnapping Mexicans visiting the US.

Looks to me like you're trying to troll us by injecting politics into this forum....
We have been approached about doing a scanning project in Puebla, Mexico. I've been to Mexico several times over the last 40 years and, while I stay aware and alert of my surroundings, I'm not uncomfortable traveling. The main thing I would worry about is the Trimble scanner. We have a pretty good connection with our local Trimble dealer, so I might see if he has a contact where we could perhaps rent a scanner instead of taking ours down there. Might even make more sense to contract a local company to do the scan. Right now, I'm just exploring the options.
I have taken different pieces of survey equipment (GPS, total station, gyrotheodolite, scanner) into a number of countries, and never had an issue. These were all 3rd world countries (Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, India, Egypt, Guyana, the only place I actually had a visa was India). You just need to exude confidence and act like there is nothing unusual. Going back to Ecuador with GPS in January. I always take the equipment as checked baggage or carry-on. Actually last time I had a bit of an issue leaving Ecuador with an S6 as a carry-on, they wanted to make sure it wasn't packed with cocaine or a bomb.?ÿ
Based on my experience living in Mexico and traveling there a few times a year (going in two weeks to Monterrey), you could always pay a bribe if they try to say something.?ÿ
As far as safety, I wouldn't worry about Puebla. If you were really worried you could hire security for a pretty low price.?ÿ
I have had problems going in to Canada (visa) and the US Virgin Islands (the USVI-go figure, they would not release my made in the US equipment for a week, it is PART of the US, but that was a long time ago, I made the mistake of sending the equipment by fedex).?ÿ
our taxing authority is Aduanas de M??xico
I suggest contacting them at the entry portal you intend to use
https://www.comercioyaduanas.com.mx/aduanas/aduanasmexico/aduanas-en-mexico/
You may also wish to investigate using a commercial importer.
High Dollar equipment is always suspect of attempted import without paying duties.
People I know who work at a survey company in Sarnia once tried to get to Windsor by crossing into Michigan at Port Huron and the plan was to cross back into Ontario at the Detroit bridge.?ÿ The distance is shorter so they thought things would be quicker even with the double crossing.
They only tried it once.?ÿ They now just drive the long way around as it is far quicker.
I can appreciate Bob Kron's sentiments from 2014, although harsh. During my last trip to Mexico, I was held up by local police, with huge sidearms, on a moonless, nightime journey to San Felipe, after deviating from the main highway. They took all of the money I had in my wallet and kissed us goodbye, in the "real" direction to the main highway towards our destination.
Good Luck to you Andy.
