Yesterday made a little personal history for my younger son and me. We finished a boundary survey that my Dad had surveyed almost exactly 30 years ago. Matt was on the field crew when we started the survey while I was stuck on a construction site. I didn't know if I would be able to work on the same crew with Matt but the stars aligned and the two of us finished it. That made three generations of the Clan Carroll to traverse those same lines and dig up those old corners. I took a picture of Matt flagging the last corner that he had just dug up... a corner set by his Grandfather.
Normal pose for a surveyor.
Dang I bet you felt a lot of pride

The jeans fit about right too. Give the young man 20 more years and folks will wonder why there's a plumber working in the woods.

Congratulations Stacy. I know that brings a lump to your throat.

That is just too cool!!
Very very nice.
That is a great story , and something to be very proud of.
Congrats,
Must have felt really special!
Christof.
Matt didn't know I took that picture nor did he know then that my Dad set that corner. When I told him, he thanked me for taking the picture and letting him know the significance. Two years ago, we were seriously concerned about the path he was on. He cut his really long hair and turned himself around. We are blessed.
This is beautiful.
Outstanding!
As a follow up... Today is Matt's 21st birthday. I gave him his grandfather's transit and tripod with two conditions. 1. He must refinish the legs. 2. He must learn to read the vernier. Somehow, I think it's what Dad would have wanted. After all, he did set at least one pin for Matt to find.
Dont ruin the patina of blood, sweat, and tears, on those old legs!
