Does anybody have a contact information cheat sheet for where to obtain Railroad Right-of-Way maps? It would seem every railroad that ever existed is now owned by some other entity.
If you were in Oklahoma I could turn you on to a phone number that is good as gold. Outside of the state, you're on your own. 🙁
If you are looking for Burlington Northern Santa Fe information give up now before you waste any more time. Their legal department has placed a moratorium on distribution of all ROW information.
That one is the culprit Jim.

Why? How does that help them?
In NC, a couple years ago a bill was introduced to the state legislature which would have required railroad companies to put their right-of-way maps on public record before they could enforce any trespass actions onto the right-of-way against adjoining landowners. Unfortunately, the bill stalled in committee and never became law, which is a real shame. On the other hand, the NC Society of Surveyors has managed to acquire and post online the original track maps for the NC Railroad company, which owns one of the major lines through the state. It's been an invaluable resource in several instances.
BNSF has a private firm handling their ROW map requests. The firm is Bartlett & West which will require payment up front prior to providing said maps either via email or hard copy.
Thanks,
Sent an email to the contact Don M. on their website.
The BLM tells me that Warren Buffet wants to use the corridor for a personal fiber optic line, but the Grant says it is for railroad purposes and he can't do it. Apparently he is gearing up for a lawsuit against the Feds and "securing the records" is part of the plan. There is a 1949 U.S. Supreme Court decision in the U.S. Governments favor...
