Reminding myself how much I like fieldwork...

Man that is it right there. Being out in nature. Got to luv it for sure.

Some horrible days when I have to work in mud during the rain on a construction site, setting out marks in an inch of dirty water on a fresh slab, hammering away a small puddle to check that the concrete nail has gone in, I try and remember that there are better days.

Luckily those days are few and far between.

Every day in the field is better than any day in the office.

Except that day you have to climb down into the sewer manhole and play with the white cockroaches.

Well, one needs to discriminate concerning types of jobs taken. 😉

Winter weather changed my mind about that.

I did my fair share of time in the field and am paying the price for it with a bad back and a stress fracture in my foot that never healed correctly. At 59 years old, I'm more than happy to be in the office full time where it's always sunny and 72°.

There's not enough money in the world for me to climb down into a live sanitary manhole, even without roaches. The company that I started working with lost two people who did that, one climbed down and passed out from the methane gasses and the other went down to save him, same results, neither came out alive.
