So those that don't follow Trimble, they recently came out with a new system called the R12.?ÿ The previous latest/greatest model was called the R10-2, which had an upgraded chip set from the R10.?ÿ The only difference between the R12 and the R10-2 is the RTK engine, which is just a software change.?ÿ Our salesman is telling me the upgrade for us to the R12 from our R10-2 is free.?ÿ Anyone else hear that??ÿ Makes me feel a lot better knowing Trimble will take care of the people that just bought the R10-2.

Well, I think it would be a real bad look if they sold you an R10 and then tried to nail you with the R12 upgrade fee a week later or whatever.?ÿ I haven't bought equipment yet but I'm guessing the survey community is small enough where dealers can't go around burning their customers like that and expect to stay in business long.

That may be...I bought a new R10-2 a few weeks ago, and I recently received a credit invoice for the $1500 that was on the original invoice for the receiver, with no explanation. The person I usually deal with was on vacation, but now it makes sense.?ÿ?ÿ

@john-hamilton

today - no difference.

I bought an r12 because I'm concerned about the sunset date on the r10-2  vs   r12

After reading this I requested a quote (1/13) from my dealer to upgrade my R10-2 to R12.

$1500

Can anyone direct me to any documentation about this free upgrade?

I saw my dealer yesterday, they said Trimble made the decision at the end of the year. I think it depends on if you are under an active warranty.?ÿ

@geometrics

I did the upgrade last month.

The R10-2 to R12 was a noticeable improvement to an already fantastic machine.

Wow, glad I watched the video. My receiver is at V5.44, not 6.04. I asked the dealer, he said it needs to be at 6.04 to use ProPoint. So I need to do another step.?ÿ

From what?ÿ I understand, if you have 5.44 you can go up to 6.04.?ÿ I just had mine updated a few minutes ago, and had 5.41 on my receivers.?ÿ The dealer actually said they made it where 6.04 doesn't show up until you update to 5.44 first.?ÿ It took a little bit of time for him to do it, maybe 2 hours but we spent quite a bit of time talking also. I also have two units.?ÿ We took them outside for just a couple of minutes and tried them out.?ÿ I of course tried to put the units in bad places, near trees and bushes etc and things seemed better, but it will probably take a few days of trying them out in the real world before I form an opinion.

So I have had the R10-2's with the upgraded software for a couple of weeks now.?ÿ I haven't used them much though.?ÿ My first impression is the change isn't dramatic.?ÿ I would say under heavy tree cover it does fix better but there is still a period of 10 to 30 seconds before it fixes.?ÿ I still need to experiment with them some more.

?ÿ

We have a Topcon Hiper II system that is about 9 years old and I used it a couple of weeks ago because we got busy.?ÿ The difference between the R10-2's and the Topcon system is dramatic.?ÿ The Topcons are tracking Glonass but not using them in the solution, a problem I have posted about in the past.

We have R-8's and R-10's. Normally when we mix and match the R-10 ends up at the base just cause there have been some issues with the R-8 at the base connecting with the R-10 rover. It's not something we've done much of so I'm no expert there (I think it's more of a repeater radio issue).

I can say however, that the R-8's will not get anywhere close to the coverage of the R-10's. We often don't bother with the repeater using the R-10's, but with the R-8's it needs to be flat open country or the repeater gets put up.?ÿ

Also, the R-10 receives signals better, side by side the R-10 will connect over a hill where the R-8 next to it isn't getting radio signal. That all being said, if you do have both I wouldn't hesitate testing them out and deciding what is best for your business, the R-8's are great receivers, compared with older ones they are a huge improvement, but the R-10's are on another level.?ÿ
