Hey guys I need some help here, thanks in advance!!

1.On a certain map, the following notation states grid factor 1.000069. If the ground distance is 2155.60 ft. on this project, the equivalent grid distance is equal to?

2.The magnetic declination on a certain date at a given place is 18?ø W. The magnetic azimuth of the line is 115?ø'. What is the true bearing of the line?

3.What is the bearing and distance between the W 1/16 corner of the NE1/4 of the N 1/4 of?ÿSection S and the S 1/16 corner of the SW1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 9 of the same township and range. Give distance to nearest 1.0 ft and bearings to nearest 1 min of arc.

Probably be a good idea to ask somewhere else if you're looking for someone to do your homework for you.

Have you considered consulting any of the dozens of reference materials and learning these concepts for yourself?

1 - https://tutors.com/lesson/what-is-a-scale-factor   But you need to know if that is grid to ground or ground to grid they gave you.

Sorry, was a quick reply, to atone I will share this that was shared on this site.  So i think permission is still valid.

2- draw a picture. 2 cross hairs. first with true north directly up page, second on top of first with mag north about 18 deg. w of true north.  draw the angle from mag north line. now figure what it is from the true north line.

3- again, draw a picture and go from there.

sketch's are your friend in surveying, even if you're not very good at them.

1. The grid (scale) factor doesn't tell you the difference between ground and grid, so the answer is still unknowable.

2. That's an add/subtract problem, you only need to figure which to use+ or -.

3. Lots of somethings are missing in that question. It kinda hurts my head to read it.

#3 is easily workable if and only if one assumes that unicorn, a perfectly aligned and dimensioned section.

1. With no other information (maybe an accompanying sketch?) multiply distance by scale factor.  It is likely that you are supposed to divide since scale factors are usually less than one and sometimes the reciprocal is calculated.

2. Easy to answer.

3. Maybe Section S should be Section 8.

I don't even know how to answer that question, looks like it was written by ChatGPT.

ChatGPT write a PLSS question involving the bearing & distance between to 1/16th corners.

1. Ground distance x Combined Scale Factor = Grid Distance.

Combined Scale Factor = Grid Scale Factor x Elevation Scale Factor. So that is why Moe says the question can't be answered with the information given. For the purposes of a test question we might ignore that.

2. Declination West, Magnetic Best. Declination East, Magnetic Least. So take your magnetic azimuth and subtract the west declination.

3. Have a go at fixing the transcription errors in the question. Once you've done that you can diagram the  layout and the path to the answer will become clear. Like Bill says, in the absence of further data it will be necessary to assume a perfect township, something that does not exist in nature.

@mightymoe you nailed it. With that being above 1.000000 it is secant if memory serves me correctly.  Now he needs to know if thats in a transverse mercator or lambert. Because then he will have to compute the other end if it changes on direction. Then he has the scale which shows the distortion of the ellipsoid or msl curbed to mapping plane distortion.  Lambert changes at each latitude Mercator at longitude. Two points make a line.  That scale at each end if it changes can be averaged. Then you need your heights or use the formula of radius of earth to get elevation factor or ellipsoid factor. Then you can create a combined factor.   Make sure you know if that is the inverse or not because it makes a difference.
