NZD to USD makes that about $862 US.  Looks like you can get them $100 US cheaper than that on fleabay in much better condition.  I've got an old T16 that I used for the last time about 10 years ago.  Still love taking it out and petting it every now and then.

Man I reckon when that guy jumped from the plane his parachute didn’t operate 100%. But I bet as banged up as it is I bet in a couple hours it could work as good as new. Might need some new cross hairs so spider web. But they did make those very robust. 

Patina is proof of genuine antiqueness.

As surveyors we are all appalled by the condition of this old soldier. But consider that a lot of the market for things like this will be people looking to dress up their restaurant or display window decor. For such people the "patina" would actually add value.
