What is the mistake?
alternate universe... is that mushroom country?
Still don't get it? Is it the stone at the base? Stone memorials are sometimes used like this when no good bearing tress are available.
was going to post the pic of the cap to the east, it won't let me, it's not the memorial, this is a very typical township and a survey of the south line.
What is the mistake?
Section 31 is above Section 6 in the PLSS.?ÿ
Plus the OP posted the title of the thread as Opps! when it should clearly be Oops! 😀

Thanks Radar.?ÿ For those of us in the Colonial States it's nice to see the "theoretical" layout.
Andy
OK... I've been dealing with so many non standard US townships, and Dominion surveys, where the standard township would place section 6 north of 31 that I didn't catch that.?ÿ

I hear ya, there can be some strange situations.
Is it typical not to reference that 6 & 31 would be in two different townships?

that could not happen, unless the adjoining townships had non-standard numbering... I have never seen such a beast
this is Probably a field not transcription error. Rather odd that it was not detected

Yes, but for this survey they were only marking the section corners with T & R
Odd that only T&R marked on Section corners, never seen that.
It is clear from the clip that it was a resurvey of the township line (reset 1/4 corner).
illustrations of markings in filed notes are with North up... always as far as I have ever known.
Section 6 and Section 31 always abut each other...the only odd thing is that Section 31 must be on the North... so the diagram in the field notes is upside down.
see typical diagram posted by RADAR above.
MightyMoe is the 1/4 actually marked as in the notes?
Peter- I would guess it was marked correctly but that monument has been lost for quite a while.
They probably were just facing south while either stamping and/or taking notes.
