And, the data collector suffered.
An injury.
And, I now will need to either replace the DC,
OR replace the screen. If I can buy the screen, I should be able to do it.
So, suggestions?
It was traumatic! Wind blew it over. Been no breeze for a while, and a sudden gust got it.
Thanks everybody.
Nate
Pencil and paper is a great substitute.
I cannot see the screen, to write the coordinates, but thank you for your most helpful suggestion!
🙂

Aloha, Nate: Sorry to hear about the DC mishap! I found one on eBay after a quick search...go to the link here.
Somebody posted here not too long ago about replacing a screen on a smartphone. Was it Jim Frame? Maybe. Anyway, that person found it pretty easy to do.
If you can find the screen and touch interface the actual replacing of it is easy.
Last month I replaced the screen/touch on my Garmin Nuvi for < $25 shipped from China. less than $25 !
You will need to get the actual part number printed on the screen itself. Then go to ebay. There are a lot listed there with pictures to verify so shop for the best price. I saw one close, asked the seller, got pointed to the exact fit and now I have an Uncle Bob.
If my fingers can do it I bet yours can too. Besides it is borked already so you have little to lose.
Good Luck!
P.S. Or maybe the Spirit Of Surveying wants you to go to Carlson?

I have two of those units in working condition with new batteries. Only difference is they have the Trimble logo and software. email or PM me if I can be of assistance.
Mine is a TDS Ranger 200c with 128 megs of memory.
What does 200t mean?
Thanks!
N
yswami, I already saw that on ebay, but it is a 200t. And, (clean too!) I am not sure how to transfer the software into that one.... I have a feeling that trimble would not approve.....
200c means color. 200T is just a little older and is monochrome.
Might I suggest that with the money you save using the fine suggestions here, you buy a Seco Prism TRIPOD? Just askin':-S
Bummer Nate. I hate it when that happens. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but fairly certain Trimble controller software isn't transferable to another controller. All the more reason to try replacing the screen. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a back up controller for the those times when the job can't wait but replacement parts will have to. I had too many mishaps with the bipod setup and switched to the tripod myself after the same thing happened taking out my R8 temporarily.

Dread the day. I got a Carlson box, and battled with it for 3 months, and sent it back.
I was GONNA learn all that thing... and all, and then buy a Javad to go with it. Then Javad changed. to the LS. I want one, but there are more needs than parts right now...
🙂
BTW I absolutely LOVE my new wet rag thingy around my neck. I can take the heat, without overheating with that thing!!! It's the one made by Frog Togg..
Take the insurance money and invest in a new Carlson data collector or this could be the time to splurge and get a new Javad system. If you took a retainer from the client you better refund it if you can't finish the job on schedule. The board has a reputation for revolving the license off surveyors that take payment then can't finish the job for some reason.
Been there, done that. VERY VERY embarrassed and mad at myself!! One of these copped it.
The top, bottom and prism were ok and what gave way was the epoxy holding the prism to the top and bottom.
We got a new one and the damaged one was glued back together to use as a "last resort" spare.

On a 10 yr old data collector?
Hi Nate,
Do you need a color screen or a monochrome? If it's the monochrome you need, I might be able to help you out. Shoot me an email at chris@billingsleysurveying.com
Mine is color. I'm afraid to try an put a monochrome screen in it.
But, as party Chief above said, "Open her up, get the numbers, find a touch screen, and fix her up"
I'm gonna try that.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't help!
Let me know if the screen replacement doesn't work out. I sold a similar one to mattharnett not long ago for $325 plus shipping. I have another one I could make the same deal on if you're interested. It had survey pro with total station module, no GPS.
