I can still read the left half of the screen, but the touch part of things is out.... how would I get out of the software, and into the mode where active sync will connect? I'd really like to download every file in this thing, before working on it.

I was thinking of buying it, and carefully removing the touch screen from it, and THEN tackling mine, to get the broken one out of it. This way I could be SURE I was hooking up an OEM touch screen.

Does anybody know the internal structure? Have you done it?

Thanks.

Nate,
Just checked my old trusty TDS, I think this will work for you:

Do 4 - 6 Esc keys.
Do 1 that will get you to File.
Do i that will get you to exit.
Do Y to confirm.

That should get you out of TDS so you can grab all your files with active sync.

That always bugged my, there should be no reason to exit all the way out to connect, but you have to I guess.

Good luck. Don't be afraid of cracking it open. These are not magic boxes, they have screws to hold them together for a reason.

I have 2 Allegro DCs running SurvCE 2.5 for sale. I will let one go for $250 + shipping. Still works and has GPS module on. We upgraded to Suveyor + and they have been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Just let me know if you want to go that way.

I did that with a couple of TSC1s a few years ago, and it worked well. Just be careful opening the case, there's probably some adhesive that requires slow going. The screen should just plug in. Piece of cake!

I don't want to deal with the conglomeration of re-education, in my head. Steven Meadows above, that is a very generous offer. IF it were a TDS ranger, then I'd leap on it. I did get a Carlson DC, tried it for 3 months. It was ok, but my old brain is trained for long time to TDS. My present plan is:

1.) Salvage all the data.
2.) Replace the Screen, or the Data collector.
3.) Get back out there, and finish that survey.

N

PS... GOT IT out of TDS survey pro!!! Held down the on button for 10+ seconds!

Active sync is backing it up! It's lovely to see the files flow!

Now, I can go other directions. I can go to a newer TDS product. I'll still fix this one, but that data flow is beautiful!

Thanks everyone!

I can even go to an older TDS monochrome screen....

Is The TDS survey software installed in the removable memory stick in this? is it stuck in this computer only, by a connection to the serial number of this particular processor's serial number?

If it is not stuck to the ser num, then, I could (conceivably) unplug the memory stick, and stick it into another?

Payden is sending me a monochrome unit, with unknown problems, (it's a retired unit) but, I have a feeling, I'll get it all going, somehow!

Jules, I just spoke with Nicholas, and the 200c is a dinosaur. He has no parts, and no experience with that (old) of a model.

OK, the backup is complete!

Now we can open it.... Whars me can opener!

Had the same thing happen not that long ago, but it only had a regular old Topcon prism on it. Thing was smashed beyond repair though.

That is a pretty old data collector. I'd just get a new one or a used one that's a few years old. You could probably find one on Ebay for around the same price as the screen replacement. I've purchased two data collectors on ebay (1 Carlson explorer and 1 TDS recon). Both worked fine.

You can do IT! Just take your time and keep track of what goes where. I did my TSC2 several times and it is sure lot easier to pay $25 and a hour of my time than the $600+ the dealer wants. Only downside is the rubber seal so be careful not to tear it.

Can't blame you for not wanting to relearn a new program. I'm a gadget person so learning new programs is always a challenge to me. Good luck with your "new" DC.

I have another one I could make the same deal on if you're interested. It had survey pro with total station module, no GPS.

I have to have the GPS module. I have one lined up this weekend. If all else fails, Another surveyor, who lives within an hour, has one I can get. So, I intend to fix this one either with a NEW screen (from the numbers on the screen) or a USED one, from another data collector.
And, I will have one this weekend, if all this fails.
And, IF I can fix the one from PAYDEN, then I'll even have a monochrome unit. I'll have backup units!

OK, I have it apart. The component in it is Made in Japan.

Sharp LQ039Q2DS55 53004407

In pressing it to get it out, I broke the seal on the touch screen membrane. So, It now needs a new membrane. I am persuaded that I probably could NOT get an USED Data collector, and remove the screen, and re install it here, with a waterproof seal.

SO,

Maybe a USED one, and change the rest of the GUTS, (Its nearly completely disassembled anyway) so that might be an option.

And, that Sharp Number does not reference very well on GOOGLE.

N

PS correct Number is Sharp LQ039Q2DS55 53004407

Yes on a 10 year old data collector. It is called replacement value insurance. If you con't find a replacement they have to pay for a new one.

OK, I found out you need a Mobile Phone Tool Kit, (Small TORX screwdrivers) to get them apart. 11 Buks at Radio Shack.
And, this is a short video from the company that made the display screen for TDS, Trimble:

;">You Tube Video, showing what it looks like.
And, this is a link to the company's web site. There are MANY manufacturers of this particular part. And, the cabling varies, where the cabling hooks up.
http://www.lcdsolar.com/products/ProductDetail.aspx/SHARP/LQ039Q2DS55/6069#.VcphAHGrTmE&apos ;">Here is the actual product, on the Solar Technologies Web site.

Now, I have to figure out how to order just one of them.

Nate
