I ordered a new robot today. I priced Sprectra Precision's new Focus 30 and Topcon's new QS series. I've been running a Trimble 5603 for almost 10 years now.
Well, it turns out Spectra has a few (around 10) Focus 10's they are getting rid of. New gun with full warranty, complete robotic package, and a new TDS Ranger 500 for less than $14K.
I have a lot of extra cables, etc., for my 5603 that will work with the Focus 10. Plus I figure I'll be able to get at least $7K for my 5603 on ebay. Since I'm running a Nomad, I will probably sell the Ranger 500 with my 5603 along with batteries, etc. for a complete turn-key package. My robot will make someone a nice instrument.
If business keeps increasing like it has been, then I expect to see a new RTK next fall 🙂
Glad to hear it! Business is OK in my neck of the woods but not good enough to warrant new gear.
Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference in a 5603 and Focus 10?
Sounds like xmas for you 😛
why sell keep it and after "my case 560 geo 12 year old and have right now L1 rtk GPS"
why waste your time on a new robot for what ???
I understand you want to unload your robot for why
The only real difference is the color. I'm really like the 5600 and I'm doing this to get a new that is under warranty and hopefully will last another 10 years.
Did you buy it directly from Spectra Precision?
I won't speak for Mr. Wolfe...but these few and I do mean few Focus 10's are available from your local dealer if they want to sell you one...
And....they are a bargain!

It looks like a pretty solid machine, however there are some differences other than color, mostly in the software. Last time around I nearly bit on the Focus but went Trimble.
Congrats on the new robot, it is a great feeling to know you are set for a while.
I've never used one, but on looks alone, the Focus 10 looks like its already 20 years old.
New Robot - Needs Name...
Are you going to name your robot? Carls is named "Chuck". Zulus is "Enterprise". GreyWolfes is named... ________ ? 🙂
New Robot - Needs Name...
I named mine Pamela, she is easy on the eyes and her performance is jaw dropping.
lol

So do Winchester rifles.

Gotta disagree there, it is identical in looks to the 5603. I just went Trimble because I use survey controller and it will not accept Trimble software.

I started to name the first robot several years ago, but I figured the next step would be talking to it and that means you've been Solo too long and are going nuts. So I bought a dog instead and named her. When a man talks to his dog, that's acceptable? :-/
I bought it from mine dealer, they sell Trimble and Spectra. They have serviced the 5603 well and I always believe when it comes to buying equipment its 20% about the instrument and 80% about getting good service.
It looks 20 years old because the Trimble 5600 and the Focus 10 are really Geodimeter 600s.
Bingo.
Well, if you have ever used a Geo 600 you would have some pleasant memories. All Trimble robots are made by geodimeter now I believe. Geodimeter had the first robot on the market. Nothing wrong with a Focus 10 even though they are dated. If I were buying new that would be my choice. Good solid gun. Jim
I suspect all current (leica, geo , trimble) are made by the same guys
Put above listed instruments side by side " holy cow they have the same servo control knobs ... eye lens and so on other attachments
Yes all robots are made in Sweden
marketed by middle men at (leica, geo , trimble)
