So question of the day, I recently went to a job which was supposed to have been placed on grid, however when i used the gps (r10) to check some known control they were both out 30' same direction. My question is: Can I use cogo on the TSC3 to shot the two points and have the remaining house corner points adjusted? Essentially moving all the points the 30' as to use the gps?

?ÿ

thanks?ÿ

I do not know about your area, but in my area Grid to Ground is closer to a quarter mile difference. If you find your control and you are sure they are the correct control points, then break out the total station and set up on one backside the other. I never layout building corners with GPS, the 5 foot pad offset sure, but not building corners.?ÿ

I agree with Scott and using a TS to set corners, but that is another topic.?ÿ ?ÿTo answer your question, you can use shoot the two points and then go into COGO and translate and then rotate the calculated points to the shot points.

My first guess is an autonomous base position mixup. It might also be a scaling to ground issue. 30 feet is a lot for a US/Int'l feet problem, but that's a possible. I suggest localizing your GPS on the project control (effectively shifting your base position to match the control and calcs rather than shifting all the calc'd points), or using the total station as previously suggested.

You probably could shift all your calc'd?ÿ points, but that a) sounds arduous, and b) may not work if the problem is not what I think it is. Figure out the source of the problem and address that.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ

why not just use the existing site control? Just survey normally instead of "moving" everything. Guess I'm a little lost why you would try to conform a house site to a grid system.

If it was me I'd just localize to the points in the field and check into a couple more to feel confident I've gotten it right. It's easier to bring Mohammed to the mountain than the other way around. I'd?ÿprefer that route to risking getting?ÿthings goobered up in a translation/rotation. There's no easy way to hit 'undo' when a translation/rotation goes south in the DC, but a localization can be deleted tout suite.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

I would be more concerned about the house corner's relationship to the property line than trying to fit grid.
