I am back on the market to buy a metal locator.

I had for years Dunham & Morrow Locator DML2000 XR (still actually use it as a backup) which I was very happy with but there were some issues with contacts in battery compartment.?ÿ

I couple years ago I bought Schonstedt GA-72CD which is good locator but not for land surveyors (just my personal opinion) since for last two years I had to send it for repair 2 times. This locator isn't good for working in hard field conditions. So wondering what anyone use and happy with at the moment.?ÿ

Thanks in advance for sharing.?ÿ

?ÿ

@gary_g I had never used one of these. But late last year I went to do a pro bono job and the boss let me borrow his it was a few minutes figuring it out but i had no trouble finding old nails that were control and a few corners. I have mostly used sch ga52cx. A few old Chicago brands.  I will say it was a nice little locator.

I like the Subsurface too.  It has been to the shop twice in the last 17 years, but repairs were minimal and it is still doing its magic.  I sent it to Dias & Dias Electronics, www.magnetic-locator-repair.com

Dunham & Morrow all the way!! Have the older yellow model DML 2000 and just bought the DML 2000 XR. A bit more beefier than the original plastic yellow model. Price is good also and I believe a lifetime guarantee.

My GA-52CX has not died and it gets the job done.  Not the best, not the worst, but it keeps on ticking.  It and I have some similarity in that regard so I would feel guilty moving on from it  😉

I had good luck with this one at a previous firm performance -wise, but cannot speak about its longevity.

I will probably die before my Schoenstadt does.  I've had it for 51 years and sent it to the shop once for a new volume control knob.

@illdjm

For the new ones they offer only 3 years warranty but I completely agree  this option is great.

@dave-lindell

I had the old one too (GA-52) and it is definately last forever but I was talking about the one I bought recently (GA-72 CD). Expectations were it would be the same or better quility which was not the case.
