I recently received a "Rebuilding the World Trade Center" tee shirt from Scott Zelenak and the New York I.U.O.E. Local 15D Surveyors.

I was very honored to receive the shirt and wanted to do something to show support of the rebuilding of the WTC and also to honor the fallen and living heros.

They asked for a donation of $25 for the shirt and however for me writing a check for $25 was too easy, I believe that in order to show true support the donation needs to hurt a little and $25 means almost nothing to me.

I have decided that I am going to auction off my HP-41 with survey pac and donate the proceeds to Scott Zelenak and allow him to decide how best to support the living and fallen heros of the 911 tragedy, I consider Scott to be a smart honorable surveyor and "boots on the ground" he will know how best to spend the proceeds of the auction. I don't care if the proceeds go to a single person or to an organization as long as the cause is worthy.

Yes, losing this calculator will hurt a bit as it has been by my side for nearly a quarter of a century and is still in pretty good condition. When I bought it the cost was over a weeks salary for me, I learned it, moved from I-Man to crew chief and never looked back.

I believed it would help move me ahead as a surveyor and boy did it, we have done a lot of work together especially during the days of calcing everything on the fly on the hood of the truck. It is very sentimental to me and I gladly donate it to the living and fallen heros of 911.

If you decide to participate I am sure it will be helpful to your karma, so let's help mend some old wounds and pay it forward too!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Auction

1. It will run until May 1 (My moms birthday, God rest her soul)

2. To place a bid just reply to this post with the amount.

3. Once the winning bidder has paid Scott Z and funds are received I will mail the package to the winner.

4. Scott will pick a deserving charity and report back to the forum.

(Maybe Wendell will make this a sticky, hopefully)

> 41-C not CX?

It is a HP 41CX, it also comes with the traverse style template and the construction staking style template, so two templates.

The case is in good condition also.

Sorry the shirt is not up for auction, check out this video of a rocket scientist discussing his HP 41, he and I share similar sentiments towards still using this calculator today for everyday mathmatics.

One more day till the close of the charity auction, currently the high bidder is jlwahl for $400, auction closes tomorrow at 2:00pm.

Obviously, while receiving the calculator will be pretty cool, the big idea here is the charity and how we as a surveyor community can support the heros of 911 who put their very lives on the line for complete strangers, people of immense character that could use our support.

Also, a major tip of the hat to the New York I.U.O.E. Local 15D Surveyors and their participation in the rebuilding of this incredibly significant national landmark and helping our country to heal.

Also, specifically to Scott Zelenak for providing us all a birdseye view of the rebuilding process, a peek inside a project that 99.9% of us would never see without Scott sharing his eyes and photography.

The calculator is in good working condition and also the survey pac. I wore it for years in my leather work belt and lost the original case and manual. A poster named David McCrary(sp) of Florida sent me the case & manual about 5 years ago out of sheer kindness of his heart.

Finally, thank Wendell and Angel for building this amazing forum and letting us all hang around..bless you both.
