High was about 102° F yesterday, and my task was to survey two adjoining junkyards. On my way there I stopped to pick up a print and noticed a vehicle in front of a restaurant, parked in the full sun, windows rolled up, and a dog inside. Strictly illegal in Arizona for good reason, so I called the police to rescue the dog.

In the late afternoon a lady carrying a baby about a year old asked where Kino hospital was (two blocks away). She had evidently been carrying the baby in the sun for some distance because the child was floppy and in distress. I got one of the mechanics, he thought fast, and bundled them into his car for a quick trip over to the hospital. Probably had them there in one minute. I really appreciated his stepping up to the plate.

When I was roaming the junkyards I noticed the two enclosures for the dogs, both shaded, but I still felt sorry for them in the heat. Then I realized that I was the one toiling in the sun, not them. They were sleeping.

Official temp was 98°, at one point yesterday my truck thermometer topped 105 in the shade with the doors open, felt cooler in the truck than in the direct sun.

Camel up folks, if you aren't going to the bathroom every two hours you aren't drinking enough water.

It's June-uary in Portland. Temp has breifly cracked 70° only a couple of days this year. Lots of rain. Supposed to warm up into the 80's this weekend.

P.L.

My wife (former ER nurse and now Nurse Practitioner) says in this heat it's every hour. Working in Orange Beach last summer I kept a bottle of water in hand practically all the time.

Yep Mark, it's supposed to top 70 for the second time this year, in Seattle this weekend. Be sure to put on your sunscreen and stay hydrated....;-)

We had a high of 96 yesterday and the forecast is for 97 today....rising to 100 by Sunday. We've had a beautiful spring with low temps....it was good while it lasted. 🙂

If you are sweating heavily(as I do) and are going to the bathroom every hour, you are losing electrolytes so fast you are going to find it almost impossible to keep them in balance. Once an hour is much too much. In the summer I drink a lot of water and other things. In a ten hour work day at 90 degrees plus I will average going 4 - 5 times and my liquid intake is usually near 3 gallons. As it gets hotter I drink more and go less.

Getting hot...

Ugh I hate it when people do that!! :-@ Whenever I came across a dog, cat, kid, basically anything alive and sweltering inside a hot car, I also called the police.

Bruce did you hang around to see if the police rescued the dog?? Any word on the baby??

I sent you something yesterday. Let me know when you get it.

Heat

Electrolytes are important. I usually keep my fluid intake regular with a little salt and other necessary minerals...

I'm thankful for your attentiveness, Bruce. It's a tough world for those who rely on us for their sustenance.

No, I had to get to the junkyard for a meeting with the architect. It has been my experience that the police take those calls seriously and they do respond.

No idea on the baby, but I'm sure glad that mechanic went into action. My car was way around on the other side of the block, and in any case was jammed with survey equipment. The baby was clearly floppy, not sleepy.

You know how some animals have it made, mostly because they have trained us so well. There is a cat in our hallway hollering for Vicki to tuck him into bed for his evening nap. He hollers to be put to bed for his morning nap and his afternoon nap as well. And we do it.

Bruce it never feels as hot when working out in the sun.

It is the radio and tv blaring "well folks today is going to be a stinker..." and so people are worn out with heat fatigue before starting the day.

Tis amazing how how people neglect animals and do not understand basic commonsense child rearing.

Good days work on all accounts!

I'm amazed at just how ignorant folks can be in that Tucson heat. Good thing you were observant and diligent. Gotta admit, I miss the Tucson heat. I think it hit 63 here in Spokane today. If we're lucky, it'll get near 80 by this weekend.

Cheers to you Bruce. Hope all goes well your way. Sounds like you're still surviving in this crazy economy!

It was a balmy 128 outside of Baghdad on Wednesday. We had a dust storm yesterday and it only got to about 110.

I admit it too, Dave!! I miss the desert heat. But then again I prefer heat over cold. I'd much rather be running around in a swimsuit sipping a cool drink in a river than bundling up like an Eskimo. 🙂
