I'm having fun with my Javad.
?ÿ
It's just fun. Having all that power, in a little box, is beyond my wildest dreams.?ÿ

Good for you!?ÿ Please educate me about Javad.?ÿ I do know about Hackberry trees like the ones surrounding your set up and impressed that you got a good signal.?ÿ So what sold you on Javad??ÿ What in your opinion, separates it from the rest??ÿ Is it more expensive that the others??ÿ I have never been around one.
Well, Mr Ford,
Good for you!?ÿ Yes, I agree.
Please educate me about Javad.?ÿIt is good in the woods.
I do know about Hackberry trees like the ones surrounding your set up and impressed that you got a good signal. I got 5 solid shots there. I'm confident I got it within 0.05'. It was a corner set.
So what sold you on Javad??ÿ It works in the environment I work in.
What in your opinion, separates it from the rest? No lies in bad places. Occasionally, I get a sloppy shot, (0.2') BUT it warns you.
Is it more expensive that the others??ÿ Something between 28k and 32k, last I heard. I'm not in the know on this. I'm working with out dated info. You would have to contact somebody else.
I have never been around one. Come by and get a demo. I can do that. But others can too.
Happy Surveying.

@t-ford Shawn Billings with Pendulum Surveying out of the Tyler area is also a rep for Javad if you're interested in a demo. He also has some videos on YouTube that show off some of the features of the Javad units. I personally haven't used one but am very interested in them.
@cyril-turner Thank you.?ÿ I will give him a call.
@nate-the-surveyor Thank you for the information!?ÿ
What a nice, natural place for a thread to end.

Well, (grin) The Javad LS Rover has a long battery life. I can run 2 days without a charge!

It's best to live where the trees are better behaved. ?????ÿ
It's best to live where the trees are better behaved. ?????ÿ
O yes! I agree. If you live in the fine meadow, and in the thin woods, hey, go get a used unit, and save some cash.
Arkansas is Javad country.
O, and RTPK, (In the field, Post Processed, Static, from accumulated data, over the radio) I like it.

I consider his loquacious posts to be from "Javad The Nate" of Starwars fame.?ÿ Just poking fun, but really, if Javad hardware/software is so head and shoulders better than others, one would assume Javad would have been "reabsorbed" by "The Borg", i.e. Trimble or another major player ??? .
Sent in my box tops and my self addressed stamped envelope. Will report when the secret decoder ring shows up.
?ÿ
@nate-the-surveyor The peanut gallery is putting on a show tonight but I appreciated your post.?ÿ?ÿ
I tend to think that in the world of motorcycles, a ROAD bike like a Honda Gold Wing, is the best for Freeways, and long drives.
And, a Sport Bike like a Kawasaki 650, 4 cylinder, and can rev to 15,000 rpm is a great sport bike.
And, a Nice DIRT bike, would be the BEST for riding in the mountains, and rough trails. Racing on tracks.
It's just in the knowing where you need to use it. THEN you can select the best one for the job.
Javad works good in the deep woods. To quote a friend, "It's just made for it".
Happy surveying to all.
N
Javad has been designing his equipment to WORK in ultra harsh environments. For a long time. So much so, that at one time, he even offered a $10,000 reward. If you could get one of his units to give a false answer. (The rest of his team had to talk him out of this, as they thought somebody would pull some stunt, to fool the unit, but not by honest means).
I don't know of any other Mfr targeting the "deep dark woods", to the extent that javad has.?ÿ
It appears that Carlson is beginning to target this though. From their advertising. Good on them. Next comes the question of "how fast?" And, "how confident"
When other Mfr's salesfolks themselves say that theirs "doesn't work well in woods" I tend to believe them... Based on retracement of some surveys...?ÿ
If I could, I'd test em all. But, in a month or 6, that test would maybe be out of date.
Maybe you, @Mike Marks could provide some objective information towards this end. Which units would qualify for the BLM to perform complete dependant re-surveys of whole townships?
I suspect that if the BLM tested all. Mfr's,?ÿ Javad likely would pass muster.?ÿ
Someday, whole townships will be done via gps. I think.
How else are we going to know, if we don't share our experiences, and compare them??ÿ
Another nice thing in a javad is that "survey points" and "design points" are kept separate. You can delete all design points, without loosing any survey points. I don't know if anybody else does that. But, it's nice.

If I am walking a trail through the deep dark woods with the LS-Plus over my shoulder, can I record that as a kinematic trail, and export it as NMEA for my trail mapping projects?
?ÿ
Mr. Half Bubble,
I don't know what NMEA is.
However, it can make a 3d poly line, and export that in acad format.?ÿ
I've experimented with it. (It does not make point numbers, but just 3d polyline, in this mode)?ÿ I had an old logging road through deep woods. I ran it 3x, with ATV, at 5-7 mph. My conclusion was that it was right.... Except where it glitched wild. By multiple runs, I got it within around 5 feet. I was just playing with it.?ÿ
I don't know if it would suffice for your purposes. If you needed higher accuracy, you could stop, and take additional check shots, with point numbers, and full verify.
Really, there are some serious and practical algorithms it it, that allow it to work in what I'd consider near impossible places.
I'm amazed at what it can do.
N
Nate, entire township retracements have been a GPS staple for at least 25 years, BLM doing them for almost 20 that I know of. Horse went out the barn on that one a looonnnnggggg time ago.
Without any total station assistance? Gps only?
I'm not so sure about that.
And I don??t mean in the plain states, Kansas, parts of Arizona, and Oklahoma, I mean Arkansas, West Virginia ?ÿetc
