We have been looking at one for awhile and the new body style helped seal the deal. 15K cheaper than a truck and so far (1000) miles it has averaged 25.5 mpg in the city. Since 95% of our work is in urban areas why not try one out....

There will be some fine tuning to the box configuration but it is a start.

I am a fan of a headache cage in survey rigs.

Yeah, they are kind of a pain, I like the openness of the field of view on that one but might try to find a model with a opening in the middle for throwing empty coffee cups over your right shoulder when driving.

Mount it far enough back that you have full range of the seat adjustment, sometimes a fella needs to back the seat up to figger.

"That is cute"

I need to move to the metroplex and downsize 😉

In contrast, when I started, I could carry all my tools behind the seat of my 1971 El Camino.

Now I carry more stuff than in your vehicle on my ATV and my Toyota Tacoma is 90% loaded.

I've had one since the end of 2014 and it has worked out great. The 4x4 tool box from my suburban slid right in and I was ready to go. There isn't as much room front to back as the suburban but due to the 2 sliding doors, every inch is easily accessed.
If you are working mostly in urban areas it's a great option.
I was holding out for the new body style, but for tax purposes I had to pull the trigger.

Well I suppose if you are into that euro-trash look, uni-body construction and 14" tires it's great.

For me I will keep the old E-350 running and then go back to a pickup.

I wish I could convince my boss of the necessity for a headache cage in our 96 Chevy 2500 van.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they required by OSHA??

It is a part of the license code, ie, "ability to maintain and control the vehicle and contents for the safety of the passengers and public".

I love my euro-trash Sprinters as the space is nothing short of amazing. I have been running Sprinters since 2003 and they are tough, reliable (when someone does not pour gas in) and very economical

Headache Cage rules

I worked at company that did a Survey of the parking lot of the local OSHA office. During the field work a OSHA guy on his lunch noticed that one of our rigs did not have a cage and wrote up a notice to repair, we had to install the cage by the date noted or be fined. The potential fine was pretty hefty, in the thousands.

The company installed cages in all vans except a couple older ones which they took out of service and sold.

There were some complaints from field hands who were dismayed in the reduction of nap time reclining options afforded a seat with a cage installed behind it.

I have been round with bosses on this issue before as well and would posit that if your employer is not willing to invest in such a basic piece of safety equipment that they are probably unwilling to invest in their employees in a manner fitting to a company worth working for.
