Small diameter aluminum or plastic rod is even better as there is minimal opportunity for "clingage" thereto by the undesirables.

I worked at a shop where to do that was against policy because of bad experience with the addition. I usually just do the bleach and water thing along with PPE, especially safety glasses.

If the MH has been clogged and there is some probing to do I would troubleshoot something however.

I just carry 2 tapes with me. One for the sewer, one for not.

If it's bad down there I'll drag the the through grass before throwing it in the truck. If not, straight in it goes.

I use the pipe mic. We have a dedicated shit stick, so the mic stays on 1 rod and resides in the garage until one of is needs it.

I always use an old 100' reel tape with a piece of rebar taped to the end.

My crews and every crew that has worked at the companies I have worked with for 20+ years have been doing this.

I've done the lath trick since day 1. Also have a rod dedicated to dipping nasty places. My question is what do you all do for dips deeper than a 25 foot rod. That's all I have had for dipping. Recently I had a 34 foot deep manhole and used a Leica Disto e7300 to get the measurement.

I use a dedicated 25' pocket tape with a rebar wired to the end at zero. A dip is just like a sideshot and I want a single, dependable measurement, no worrying about adding or subtracting a foot which I'm sure to either screw up or spend all night wondering if I did. Also, of course, disposable surgical gloves, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, sometimes charcoal lighter fluid and a match, and for me a dedicated water container, liquid soap, and paper towels. Can't be too careful with that crap, no pun intended.
