Tell him it was dead on line when you surveyed it 12 years ago and must have settled since then...

Not so fast!

Last week I saw another surveyor locate four pipes at the corners of a 40-acre fenced tract
with his RC model helicopter. He landed and changed batteries. He set the coordinates
of the four pipes as waypoints. He then located all of the fence corners and buildings
near the property lines. Then his draftsman would locate each fence post on the photos.
For each 1320'-line, there were several overlapping images. He loaded the images into
his computer and all of the images automatically edge-matched. His CAD file with
images showed the offset attribute from the true line.

He is going to set me up next week with my own helicopter and software.

A fence that is 6" wide and is also +/- 3" from the center of fence at any given location to the boundary line is exactly on line.

Tell the landowner to walk his line every day for the next 12 months, taking a break at the spot he is concerned about each time for a few minutes, and lean against the post there to rest, drink a soda, smoke if he does that, then give a light shove off the pole to continue his walk.

At the end of that year, have him check the fence location again.

Before you purchase a Helicopter check out the Quadcopters. They are MUCH easier to fly than a single or twin blade rc helicopter. And with the GoPro attached pictures can be taken at each point. Whatever you choose make sure it has auto hoover and a good gyroscope. Below is a “mid-priced” ($700 no camera) quad which, for the most part, has received good reviews. Also buy at least one extra battery and charger. Good luck!

More details are here.....

Have a great weekend! B-)

Going to a DJi Phantom demo in about an hour...

This will mount a GoPro camera. The videos I have seen show the camera perspective generally horizontally or a slight downward angle. I am checking to see if the mount will allow a nadir view. This quad has a "return home" gps function built in if it loses com lock with the controller.

DJI is preparing to release Zenmuse Gimbal for GoPro. The 2-axis version supports pitch and roll stabilization control.

Have a great weekend and let us know about the demo. B-)
