I'm not a truck person, but there are several trucks in my family. Things like bed size and towing capacity always seemed to be important during the purchase process. I don't see much attention to that here:

Is Elon confusing truck use with off-roading?

It is one of those concept ideas like Audi's offroad electric car that uses drones to light the way.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/10/20858925/audi-ai-trail-concept-ev-off-roader-drone-headlights-frankfurt-motor-show-2019

The designs and use of technology are the big features of each of them that will pave the way for fewer materials in newer vehicles.

Brilliant concept. If I were in the market I would certainly buy one. And, the simple design will make manufacturing much easier = cost savings. My take is that Elon has done it again.

If I see it towing 11,000 lbs of calves in a gooseneck trailer with the easy and comfort of a modern 1 ton diesel, then I might be impressed.?ÿ Until then, its just another fad toy for the yuppies to drool over.

Yup.?ÿ Hitch up a trailer/wagon like the old gravity wagon I bought today and see what happens as it consistently whips from side to side at anything over 20 mph.?ÿ There must be enough weight in the truck to be in control of what it pulls.?ÿ Both for pulling and for stopping safely.

The pic with the ATV reminds me of a smaller version of the 1957 Ford Ranchero.

Until you encounter a black-out.

Gas pumps don't work in a black-out either Bruce

Elon seems to be today's Jobs. Everything he shows people seem to drool over even if it looks ridiculous. Remember when Jobs unveiled the Ipad 3 and everyone in unison clapped and cheered even if it looks exactly like the Ipad 2.

For $39,000, might as well get a Toyota Tundra.

I think that Elon is paving the way to the future. Consider this:

Too much risk for me to invest, though.

They need to use the two best Mustang colors, burgundy like my 67, and hunter green, the Bullitt color. It is a cool car, bit pricey, but 0-6 in 3 some seconds with 230 mile range is getting there for sure.

My wife's 65 was red and that's the only color she would ever consider. Alas, they're out of the question for us. We can get in them OK, but getting out is another story.

It looks like the jetsons bought an el camino.

Make it in long bed 4 door and I might consider a test drive. As Holy says, the truck has to weigh enough to handle the payload and what you are towing. I'll stick with my Ram for now.

The weight of the truck has not been released, but based on other Tesla cars it should be quite heavy, probably much more than a traditional pickup.  It's because of the weight of the battery pack.

If you follow the link to the news story about the unveiling, I believe that they kept the weight in line with an F150.

As Stephen says, the weight is F150ish. Too light to consider getting even close to the advertised towing capacity. What you can drag does not equate to what you can control.

Four-wheel drive is a must anymore for any kind of agricultural use.

It's hard to find a 2WD drive truck around here. It used to be 4WD was reserved for getting out. Now I need it to get out of the subdivision.

The computer controlled trucks with independent motors at every wheel are amazing but I haven't seen one in a daily driver configuration. If Elon would let me buy him a beer I'm sure I could provide some inspiration...
