Date?

At the PLSO Conference in January the word, from a source that would have inside info, was to expect a Beta release in June of this year. If that happens - I'm not going to hold my breath - one would expect another year or two before it takes over as the standard.  

Trimble now include beta versions in their Coordinate System Database - they show it as NSRS2022

I talked that the retired NGS guy Dave Doyle a little bit at the conference last month and he said the 2022 stuff is listed as beta but probably won't change between now and the official release so it's basically released.  Whether the various equipment manufacturers have it in their software yet though is a question for those guys.

There is a beta site with some '2022 products on it, but not coordinates for any passive marker or CORS station. 

Expected release to be between 3rd quarter of 2026 (optimistic) and 1st quarter of 2027. Expect continuing NAD83 support for between 6 and 12  months after adoption. 

FEMA has made no statement about datum adoption. Given their history, I would expect them to adopt the new datum in 10 to 20 years.

Efforts are going on to get FEMA into the conversation about the transition to the new datums. Don't hold your breath, but the Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee folks are trying to come up with a plan for the FEMA certificates.  NGS says Betas are out and NSPS has a site that talks about the changes: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/a8e9468ad03748a1a9536f7677cbf99b

Last I heard, betas will rule for this year. That info is on the NGS website.

FEMA map acceptance is political. The last one was a struggle, after the results of it, I doubt this time around it will fly very easily in many nearby communities. But not everyone has the same inside knowledge that I do.
