AB7962 was an old monument set by the MA DPW.?ÿ I have never researched before the 1940's but it was called existing in the old books.?ÿ Over the years it has been recovered and used as a Benchmark by several departments including the Massachusetts Geodetic Survey, MassHighway/MassDOT, FEMA, NGS and Co OPS.?ÿ I myself have included the mark in several surveys within the area.?ÿ Unfortunately it was always under too much vegetation to be a candidate for GPS.
?ÿ
Have you sent that photo and a closeup to NGS, to update the data base?
I feel like we should all take of our hats and cast our eyes downward as someone recites a few words to remember this fallen soldier.?ÿ?ÿ
Then we should get busy with hammer and chisel to bust that baby out of there!?ÿ They make fine paperweights.

We replaced a water tower for one of our clients.?ÿ On one of the leg foundations was a benchmark with the name being the name of the town.?ÿ When the contractor took down the tank I had him save me the brass disc.?ÿ I took a grinder to the stem and polished the disc.?ÿ I had a shadowbox frame made, mounted the disc and gave it to the Director of Public Works.?ÿ It sure looked good hanging on the wall behind his desk.?ÿ And YES I reported the disc as destroyed.

It was reported.?ÿ I am not sure if I will be the one to end up with it.?ÿ It was not my job site.
Hi Spledeus,
Thanks for posting. ?ÿCould you please email the photo(s) to [email protected]
We will most likely send someone to obtain the monument as well. ?ÿDo you know if it is laying near it??s original position still?
Thank You,
Webster
