Today's second project was to locate, tie in and flag corners of 6 small lots for new townhomes to be built in a subdivision built in the early 1980s. I found every corner with only two or three bent or otherwise disturbed, but nice finds.
I decided to locate and dig on the first pass and to flag and tie on the second pass. As I sit at the truck flagging lathes, an immigrant worker jumps on a backhoe and starts clearing mesquite brush. Headed straight for a corner so I run over and make hand signals at him to stop. He cuts the motor and I ask him not to work here right now. He looks at me with the glaze of a deer in oncoming headlights, so I piece together my best Tex-Mex and tell him, "NO TRABAJO AQUI, POR FAVOR!!". On my way back to the truck I see the project super standing nearby and tell him it is going to cost him twice as much if the dude on the bobcat didn't knock it off.
Usually the running joke is that the bulldozers show up after you flag a point. I got to hire this guy, he's really good. He found the corner before I even flagged it.
He bent one corner pretty good, but the super made him go do something else until I was finished.
Nice day to be surveying. Didn't finish everything I needed to do, but I got a lot done.
Going to go bury my dad this weekend. Y'all have a good one.

All that corner knocking stuff is day to day.

It's been right at 20 1/2 years since we buried Dad. Mom's been gone 14 1/2 years. There is nothing easy about it. Anyone who says differently is flat wrong.
Keep busy. Try to stick to your routine as much as you can despite this big change in your life. You will survive.
You make a good point, Cow. It's not ever easy, and I don't care how old you are when your only parent dies, you are an orphan.
Don

Thanks Guys.
I forgot that not everyone on here is on my Facebook where I posted the info originally. I was kind of surprised to see the responses, but I do appreciate all your thoughts.
Mom had some concerns about posting the memorial details because of some robberies in her town during funerals - it's not in the newspaper. Apparently some jerkwagon is cruising the obits for robbery opportunities, so here is the obit minus the memorial info.

Sorry for your loss too. It is difficult. My grandfather just past away this morning and just last weekend, buried a uncle. Take pleasure that they are at peace and in a better place and not suffering. Keep your chin up and the keep diggin for those lost points.
Thanks Guys.
Condolences to you and your family; at 83, with 6 children and 7 grandchildren, it sounds like he had a good life.
