What is the BEST software for simple survey work?

for Simple stuff stay away from C3D...
even for the hard stuff.

Medium stuff to.

Carlson W/Intellicad would be the cheapest amongst those choices and certainly capable of doing simple survey work. And much more.

Carlson will do absolutely everything you need, is easier to setup ands configure (even I was able to do it!! DUH!!) and if you are smart and but the Auto CAD embedded version, you get a GREAT product for almost 40% less than Civil3D. Why pay for functionallity that you will never use or need?
My company switched over from LDD three years ago and we have not looked back. Termendous increase in productivity and we get the jobs done MUCH faster than we did in LDD.
Support from Carlson cannot be beat either. If you buy your Carlson software from a Carlson College member you can get some awesome training to get you going ASAP.

Now to add my two cents. Get Carlson Survey with IntelliCAD, go to the right end of the top tool bar and use the C & G Menus. They are simpler to use than the Carlson menus. I have been a C & G user from the mid 1980's (customer number 186 and thank God Carlson bought C & G from the .COM that bought it from C & G when Ed retired). This will give you the simple you want.

Take a look into TDS Foresight, pretty basic and straightforward if your working in a local plane datum. I've been using it for six years and like it a lot. Downside is bubkis in the support department. I use TBC and Civil 3D as well, but prefer Foresight for drafting and comping the everyday stuff, it's just simpler to use.

Try Allycad

The demo is free and if I remember right you can do some decent sized projects on it.

It seems to work with surveyor's units and even does bearing distance labeling.

PCSurvey is pretty good for the money, very intuitive.

I like PC Survey a lot.

Simplicity is pretty cool, but when I used it it lacked the drafting capabilities. Tds Foresight was good, used it because of the seamless integration with TDS Survey Pro. I never used it to draft anything.

For the money I think you'll get more bang for the buck with Carlson Survey/Intellicad option.

Barry Graham's Free COGO Quadrant is a good FREE COGO program, and you can also create a DXF of your work.

General Cadd Surveyor 3D is an inexpensive complete Cadd/COGO/Contouring package.
