Now I have a problem where I can't create a new folder. Windows 7/8 operating system, freshly updated operating files.
If I go to Pictures and right mouse click, then scroll down to "New" the only option is to create a briefcase.
If I click the "New Folder" button at the top of the window noting happens.
If I open Carlson (2008 stand alone) and create a new project I cannot create a new project folder in there either.
I just thought I would throw this out here before restoring to an earlier date.
Any solutions? Is there a setting that has become corrupted ?
EDIT: I have restarted, and shut down and rebooted..
Thanks in advance.

Probably a 'Administrator/Security setting', but I am not sure
where to tell you to look.

to take such significant action.
Work is anathema to new computers, however if you want to play games or watch videos they are ready to go.

Sometimes I just hate computers>HELP! With Win 7
This is becoming quite an issue now. I restored my computer to yesterday when things were working fine. But, no change. I still cannot create a folder. The only option is to create a compressed folder (zipped) or a briefcase file?
I don't know what a briefcase file is, or does for me, but I don't really feel the need to compress my files.
According to my computer I have about 790GB available, and have used only 122GB so space is not an issue.
I am the only operator on this machine and am therefore the administrator, too.
HELP!
I can't create project files/folders!
This exact problem happened to my Mom's computer and here's how I fixed it.
The issue should be caused by damaged or incorrect registry key entry. Please check the following registry value:
- Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryBackgroundshellexContextMenuHandlersNew
- Check to make sure the value for (Default) is: {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}. If not, change it.
If the issue persists after changing the registry key value, please continue:
- Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFolder
- Right click on the Folder key on the left pane, and then select "Export" to backup this registry key.
- Go to this Skydrive account and download folderfix.zip file.
- Right click and extract the folderfix.reg file.
- Right click on the folderfix.reg file and then click Merge.
- Click Yes to confirm the modification.

Way to obfuscate, Microsoft. A more appropriate default value would be {AllowMeToCreateNewFoldersStupid}.
I hate to think what might happen if someone were to flub a character when typing in that default value.
Most puzzling to me was that a system restore to yesterday morning wouldn't correct it!
Wendell's fix-it is something I never cold have figured out myself for sure.
Brad Ott's signature has it right . . .
since it says, "Beer Leg dot com R O C K S ! !"
This thread illustrates one of the many reasons that it does.

Check the properties of the parent folder. Be sure it is NOT set to "read-only".
Then check the security tab and be sure your permissions are set to "allow".
Other than that, I can't help.
