Hi,
Is outsourcing for drawing plans common at your companies? I've used some to process laser scanner data but never for regular drawings (technical files, profile drawing,...)
If so, are there good recomandations?
Greetings,
Lieven

It depends on a lot of factors. I have worked as a freelance drafter/survey tech before....specifically ALTA's and topographic surveys. Before you go that route, I'd suggest the following:

Make sure your freelancer understands the scope of work and your company's cad/drawing standards.

I wouldn't have the freelancer do any boundary work, unless you've worked with them before (like a former employee).

It's also best to agree on an all-inclusive price and time table. The price I quoted included everythjng in their scope of work, any revisions the PLS had, and any revisions from client/county within 60 days of completion.

Regular updates from both parties are key. I made sure the PLS knew exactly where the project was in terms of completion, any documents I needed, any problems, etc...

While nothing beats having drafters/techs in the office, outsourcing can be a great idea to handle an unexpected job or work through a backlog. But the key is getting someone you feel comfortable with.
