When I exchange information to/from my data collector, I use a USB cable and Windows Mobile Device Center to connect to my computer. This works fine most of the time but sometimes it does not make a connection to the computer.

Are there some better ways to do this without using Windows Mobile Device Center and cables?

Windows Mobile Device Center stopped working on my Vista laptop, and when I plugged in the USB cable, the data collector started showing up much like a thumb drive or external hard drive would.

Dont you just miss Active-sync!

We use a Ranger with survey pro and have the no conection issue about 30% of the time with the laptop (running vista) in the field, I keep a flash drive in my laptop case and use the file explorer to transfer when it wants to be picky. In the office I have active-sync on an old XP machine to xfer with.

I am just now starting to use my Windows 8 laptop, and the data collectors connect to this laptop with WMDC, at least so far.

Yes, I do miss XP and Active Sync.

Sometimes my WMDC gets glitchy and won't boot when I plug the data collector in with the USB cable. This can be remedied by a computer restart. Usually if this happens I just go to My Computer and open the data collector on the drive tree on the left side of the window and do my copying and pasting from there.

Use a data collector with WiFi or a modem and just email them to yourself.

Aloha, not sure which field software you are using...in Survey Pro you can use Dropbox. You need Wifi. I rarely connect the DC to PC.
