When I type in a town or address to zoom to, it always shows a tilted view. How do I stop this? There is a box in the options called "tilt when zooming" that I have unchecked. That doesn't work for this.

This behavior was introduced in a recent build, and my investigation concluded that there's no fix for it yet. It's very annoying.

Use the tool with the "N" on it in the upper right corner of the screen.

Click and hold the "down arrow" to increase the viewing angle (straight-down view), click and hold the "up arrow" to decrease the viewing angle (more oblique).

Go to:
TOOLS;
OPTIONS;
Under the NAVIGATION tab: click the "DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY TILT WHILE ZOOMING" radio button.

Google Maps I believe, had the same issue a while back. Seems to be corrected there now.

Same gripe, once I get to area I hit "r", to reset tilt and orientation. Still no big deal for free!

also, Just hit "R" any time and it will automatically reset. I hate that tilting crap too.

Geez, I understand it's free.

I didn't know about hitting the R key.

That does not do the trick on version 7.0.3.8542. The R key is nice though.

I learned the "R" trick right here on this very board.

That feature annoys me too.

Click on the "N" will do the same as hit the "R" button.

B-)

I haven't found a way to keep it flat by default, but after it zooms to your point, type U, it stands for up. If you want north straight up type N.

the fix: Google Earth Gripe

Is this option absent in any build? Does it not work in any of them?

yes, tilt is the default.

That option has been around for a long time, but isn't the problem. They broke the tilt control in the last build, and haven't fixed it yet.

Funny, I thought I had GE set to automatically check for updates, but now I don't even see that option. In any case, I installed the new build and it works! No more tilted search. Yay!

I have been dealing with this for awhile now and could not get the tilting to stop with the settings. I will be using the "R" key stroke. Thanks for the info.
