Anyone know of a way to explode points in Carlson yet keep the descriptions? I've tried many of the point settings and so far no luck.

Being a block, I don't think it can be done.

Field to Finish routine gives the option to place entities (Point ID, elevation, description)on specific layers.

Why do you want to explode them?

Explode Points??? Yes, Why???

I believe I is critical to keep all point attributes associated.

I want to know that I can pick any of the point attributes and get all information about that point.

If for some reason you need an attribute separated from the group you can draw any point attribute all by itself on a special layer.

Explode Points??? Yes, Why???

This smells like something I might have asked back when I transitioned from Softdesk LDD to Carlson.

Dealing with point attributes was one of the biggest paradigm shifts for me.

I am glad I made that shift though.

I agree that there is probably something else prompting the request.

Good to ask, "why?".

"Explode Points" Is The Command

Since I have never had a reason to do it, I had to open a drawing and found the command.

Under "Points" pulldown

select "Change Point Format"

select "Explode Points"

after selecting points, it gives you and opportunity to change the point number, point elevation and/or point description layers.

Useful command if you have to do it, but I still want to know why?

On the command Line type; "explode_scad"

It then reminds you that,

"This command will explode selected Carlson Software point blocks and replot the
attributes as Text entities!
The resulting points will NOT be useable by most Carlson Software commands!!!!
Select Carlson Software Points to Explode."

In other words Carlson thinks it is a dumb idea also.

I want it to be a drawing entity that another cad user will be able to see when they open the drawing......won't have to bother with points.

"Explode Points" Is The Command

A cad operator for another firm has asked me to do it for some reason or another. It's an architectural firm that gives me a lot of work so I don't mind trying to do it for them in this situation.

"Explode Points" Is The Command

Give the command field to finish a try, you should be able to easily achieve your goal for your client, which I understand is to place each attribute on its own layer.

Find Out What Software The Architect Is using

And change your Carlson Point formats to their software.

"Points" pulldown

"Convert Point Format"

The CAD dummy does not know enough to ask the right question.
