QGIS can now read and extract the metes and bounds from survey plats automatically, creating a polygon with an LLM.
Typing S 21° 14' W 50x times into a coordinate geometry (CoGo) table before hitting save is so... 2023. GIS deserves better.
This will be available in our QGIS plugin sometime in the next 2 days!

But @chris-bouffard there is a Q in front of GIS! Ha. I get it.
QGIS is great at plugging some of the holes in survey software we use in this part of the world. Reprojecting data and getting LIDAR DEM into contour lines you can visualise are some useful features. Also just getting shape files into DWG layers.
Legal description software writing software for CAD has been around for awhile, in various forms. Having one in QGIS concerns me because most of the QGIS user base has no business writing legal descriptions.
Imagine the slog of converting something like that into a usable description. I can't say when the first program I got that converted linework into bearings and distances, but I do know it's was more than twenty years ago. The one hard fast rule is that the linework has to be completed and perfect.
Don't need to say anymore as far as GIS is concerned.
And no matter what program that used they are only a start on the description.

Joel, have you taken a look at what I have created with Deed Reader Pro yet? Deed
Reader Pro is an automated deed plotting program that reads deeds in PDF and
image formats and plots them in CAD. I do this without the use AI so it is faster than uploading it to a server and waiting for it to be processed. I also output all the data to Call Table that can be reviewed and edited. It appears that this QGIS plugin does not have this ability yet.
Deed Reader Pro can save DWG files that can easily be imported into QGIS. I only use QGIS occasionally so I am still trying to figure out how to move and rotate the linework once it is imported. It looks like these options are in the Advanced Digitizing Toolbar but I haven't figured out how to make the linework editable yet so I can move and rotate it. I will likely explore the option to choose the beginning point in QGIS in the future to streamline importing into QGIS if there is a desire for this.
