I have the new Carlson Surveyor 2 and I have a couple of questions.

1. The DC goes to a state where the text in the description box is always highlighted, similar to the setting on a PC when you hit the "Insert" key at the top. I don't know what key series I am hitting to cause that and undo that. Right now I am rebooting the DC.

2. I have to reset it sometimes due to it locking up. I don't know if anybody else has that problem or not, but every couple of days I have to reset it to get it to work properly. After I reset we don't have any problems, but would like to know if it just my unit or now.

Any help would be appreciated. Other than these two issues I have had smooth sailing with the DC. It is faster than the Surveyor +, but every DC seems to have some sort of tick.

We Are running the Surveyor 2, and also have the resetting issue seams to be couple days then needs to be reset. Also I have lost the use of the enter bottom and the center selection button. So with that said it is going back to Carlson ASAP and they are going to address both issues.

I grabbed every DC at our last state convention. I liked the Surveyor 2 the best for feel. With its internal GPS, and cell (no need for a handheld for recon, and expensive cell modem in the survey grade GPS) it quickly made the top of my list to buy. Planning on one by the end of the year. Hope they get things sorted out soon then. If anyone wants my FC-2500, then maybe it will be sooner rather then later! 🙂

FYI: Carlson Surveyor 2 is soon be EOL (End of Life) , and to be replaced by Panasonic ToughPad FZ-M1

I have been working with Carlson with my RAM Mount cases for the ToughPads.

Should be seeing advertising change from Surveyor 2 to the ToughPads very soon.

They're already touting the Toughpads on their website. I have a lot of years and love with/for the old Allegro/Surveyor+ & 2 form factors. They were admirable workhorses, but I'm so sick of the windows mobile quirks I'm waiting for the Toughpads with bated breath.

If they would just make an android solution...

No hardware keyboard? Touchscreen-only navigation? Ughhh. The difference in screen navigation speed between my Surveyor+ and my Javad Triumph-LS is dramatic. I don't really mind it on the Javad because I don't do detailed topo with it, but I don't think I'd be very happy doing an urban topo with a touchscreen-only DC.

Don't make much sense, the surveyor 2 hasn't been out a year yet?

Like the looks of that FZ-M1 though - as a secondary unit. The mounts will make all the difference. A smaller DC, can quickly be bulked up with a crappy mount. We don't need huge knobs and generic ball mounts hanging off everything. Simple - clean - light. Is that so hard to ask for?

Better yet, every designer of one of these products should be required to use it 10 hours a day - for 5 straight days before it goes to production.

Bill - Surv CE CE 6 'should' be android, according to Carlson.

Sorry my BAD, I was WRONG.

Surveyor 2 is not EOL.

I heard it wrong. Was thinking of the Supervisor.

Hey, atleast I had the S correct.

Sorry for confusion.
