I have tried, several times now, to open the Layer Properties Manager and have received this fatal error message, where upon the program closes..
I have saved the drawing and created a new drawing, imported the old and still it happens. I have also purged the drawing and it still happens!
Any clues on how to resolve this and let change a few layer colors??
thanks,
Don
You need to send this to the guys at Carlson Support. Looks like your Layer Manager may be corrupt.
Only two ways I know to possibly fix this is do a System Restore to an earlier date when all was fine or do a reload on the Carlson Software. (If you do a reload, use the latest version of your 2008 software on the Carlson website. That way you will get all of the fixes that the added to the software.)
I'm in the middle of re-installng it now....Boy do I hate to have to re-do all those private settings...my north arrow, logo, settings...ack
I didn't see 2008 on the website, saw 2009 as the oldest version. Maybe I didn't look in the right places??
It still happens after re-loading the disks... and it's happens in every drawing I open!!!
I did uninstall the program with the window program manager and then re-installed from the disks...
I wonder what's up?? It was fine earlier today, yesterday and back...
Don't get too excited about re-doing stuff. I know when you load the latest build of your software, not much of your custom stuff gets over written. Not sure if a load from the CD is the same, but I would think so.
Load'er up and check your files to see. I think you will find most still intact.
You're running it on a Win7 machine aren't you?
Ask me how I know that. 🙂
Carlson Layers Issue (2008 standalone ACAD version)>Kris
yup, I was thinking the same thing, except I've been running it since Nov. so it's a little confusing, but so is Win7....
Holy Snit!! That shouldn't happen at all!! (Unless it is a Windows 7 issue, but I can't see that. I'm on Windows 7 and all of my old stuff runs fine. My Carlson is 2010 though.)
Only thing left is a system Restore back, to say, last Monday?
We have the same problem. We use templates that bring in all our layers already setup so it is not much of an issue.
One last shot. What happens if you type LAYER on the command line?
For a temporary cheap fix, this is what I would try.
If you can get the .dwg to open, take and right click drag a box over all the linework and text throughout the drawing, in model space. Open your properties manager and reduce all that linework and text to one layer, say the 0 layer. Wblock this and store it in your project folder.
Take a comparable project (i.e topo, boundary, as-built) with a comparable set of layers, and rename that and save it to your present work folder.
Import the Wblock to your new renamed job and reassign your linework and text to some comparable layers.
Its cheap but it might save you some headache temporarily.
edit: Before changing line work and text in the properties dialogue box, I would run the explode command three or four times (i don't have faith in running it once) followed by the remove reactors command a few times.
Same thing happens when I type layer at the command prompt.
R.J., thats what I dd to get my drawing done. Then the belt on my plotter disentigrated. HP 500. Been a tough day.
Is it with one drawing or all drawings? I have found that if there are many unattached xref, get rid of them if not necessary. Also, try writing the current drawing entities out as a block and starting a new drawing, then re-insert. Also try a drawing cleanup.
here is your fix.....create a new user profile on your computer...try it! I had this problem and this is the only thing that worked...something to do with the security settings getting messed up

That actually worked! I'm stunned but by creating the new user profile the layer command works again...Thanks!!!!
Carlson Layers Issue (2008 standalone ACAD version)>RAMBLEON
lol, you sound very surprised...I had this issue several years back and I tried everything I could think of..Carlson could not figure it out but I kept seeing that it was a "security issue" this got me to thinking that there are user name specific program settings and security settings so I created a new user name and it fixed the problem! I told Carlson about it but since it was 2008 software, they probably didn't bother noting the solution. Glad I could help.
Wow Worked for me today too!!!
Yippee!!!
