I am having problems connecting a TSC3 to Civil 3D 2013. The TSC3 is connected by USB and downloads fine into TBC and TGO. Trimble link is only giving me the option to connect to an activesync device on COM1. Am I going to need to connect it by serial port? I thought that windows mobile was supposed to connect to C3D. Has anyone else had issues connecting?

Thanks,

I've had the same issue and found no solution to it.. no way to get Civil3D to connect to the Trimble Link, it only wants to do ActiveSync but that isn't even installed in Windows 7.

Let me know if you figure out, quite frustrating.

Try exporting a dc or data collector file from the TSC3 and importing it into civil 3d. The exported file is stored on the TSC3 in Trimble DataExport

Windows 7 uses Windows Mobile Device Center for its connection to mobile devices...not ActiveSync.

Google it and go to the Microsoft website, download and install.

I had the same problem of not being able to download the data from the TSC2 (with Trimble Access) into Civil3D 2012 using Trimble link. The data also failed to download using the latest version of Data Transfer. Per the Trimble rep, General Survey needs to be added and used as the connecting device and not Survey controller on Active Sync. I was then able to connect in Data Transfer and also using Trimble Link. Hopefully, this works for the TSC3 to C3D 2013.

How do you add General Survey? I know how to add devices but all the options seem very antiquated. Any input would be greatly appreciated, I added a Survey Data Folder today but still had no luck importing the job file.. some error about coordinate files.

If General Survey is not listed you'll have to uninstall Trimble Data Transfer,
and reinstall the latest version.

running Trimble Access Installation Manager - Update office software will probably update the different drivers Trimble Data Acces needs to import your job files and convert them to the different formats.

Wow, I'm stunned that actually works.. I always figured Trimble Link was just a piece of junk. Thank you!

csnoke,

it's a pleasure!

I have been looking at C3d and the Trimble Link some years ago ...
I found that using the Trimble Link then that you were limited to the conversion Trimble programmed in the link, that was then by converting to fbk, and the limitations of the fieldcoding in the fbk style. Did they change that or is importing a csv file (Name,E,N,El,Descriptions) still more powerfull?

What I mean: Is Trimble Link capable of using/importing the codes for creating parallel lines, line extensions, Right angles, ... ?

I did a quick run through today and it is exactly the same as the import file to survey database work flow that is standard to C3D. Basically Trimble Link connects to the device, downloads the job file, converts it to a FBK, and then opens the "import survey data" dialogue and lets you import the FBK it just created.

The last step in that process of course is the dialogue that let's you process linework codes. So yes... it works fine.

I want to look and see if it imports attributes also, that would be an important improvement for me but I didn't get to check that today.

Any luck with finding an efficient way to import point/feature attributes into C3D? I found the following you tube videos that utilize C3D User Defined Properties to both import and display attribute information: www.youtube.com/watch?v=htVYtNSauDw and

TSC3 to Civil 3D 2013 ....question follow up

I guess you want to transfer your job files with your standard file explorer or by usb memory stick.

You can set up a location on your hard drive that will function as a TSC3 storage.
You have to start Trimble Data Transfer and tap 'Devices'
Select New and browse for 'General Survey Data Card'
Now you can select a folder to hold your files.

Copy your job files you wan't to process here.
From within TrimbleLink you should be able to select your 'General Survey Data Card' and select the job files here available.

Hope this helps,

Chr.

I found those youtube links very helpful. Particularly the 'Merging Field Notes with Points in Civil 3D 2012'. I followed that one exactly. Unfortunately when I inserted my points, nothing showed up. Did you have this problem? Perhaps I have a setting turned off?

Thank you,

D

D,

I see you've posted in the Civil 3D Forum too. You'll probably need to post your drawing there to figure out what happened.

The problem turned out to be my override settings in the point group. Once I set the override for the point label style to be checked I got all the labels I expected. Thank you.
