I'm sure this is user ignorance, but switching to the intellicad setup of Carlson, I just can't seem to get the snaps to operate the same way I've been doing them in Autocad since the days of LDD...and I've been using Carlson for 3 years.?ÿ ?ÿ Is there a toggle I'm missing somewhere??ÿ ?ÿalso, I somehow turned off the ability to "window' items to erase or select and for the life of me can't find the setting for that anywhere..?ÿ?ÿ

?ÿ

Please help, this is driving me crazy.

?ÿ

Sorry, mine is not the specific technical help you are seeking. ?ÿInstead, I offer this hippie~dippy response with the best of intentions.

Go with the new workflow. ?ÿStop fighting and resisting the current to go in the old ways.

(However, having said that, I genuinely hope that someone else comes along with specifically technical help that actually addresses your request.)

Thank you for your indulgence.

Carry on.

Stop fighting and resisting the current to go in the old ways.

But fighting and resisting is my go-to method, that always works

^^^?ÿ This guy gets it.

?ÿ

(Seriously though, when I was a trainer for one of the big equipment manufacturers, I really disliked having to train surveyors versus, say, cultural resources folks or scientists. Surveyors always put up the most resistance and gave me the most grief over having to change their workflow even slightly.)

Things like that are why I ditched the ICAD version and paid the extra for the embedded ACAD.?ÿ But that was early on, so maybe it's a lot better now.

I just struggled with the, it's almost like ACAD, just different, aspect.?ÿ And I hated to admit that and stay with Autodesk

@jph

You do give up the ability to run LISP and other customizations in the ACAD version, but if you are not using those abilities .....?ÿ

@mark-mayer

I don't use that, but even so, don't think it'd be worth the cost to have full-blown ACAD for them.

I also struggled, a little bit, with these same issues; when I went from Carlson 2012 with ACAD to 2020 inteliCAD. I found that Carlson support is the BEST in the business! They helped me on several occasions. Emailing them worked best for me.

With your particular problems, Right clicking on the command line and/or the icons below that, might help resolve what you're trying to do. And maybe even show you something that you didn't even know you wanted!

?ÿ

Good luck!

I hope everyone has a great day, I know I will!

@andy-j

You had your real answer very early on. It works like that. Deal with it, or buy the ACAD based version.?ÿ

@mark-mayer?ÿ

?ÿ

Look, that's just not true..?ÿ ?ÿThis is the version that came with my equipment package.?ÿ

?ÿ

Are you saying no one can help point me to the setting that I need to adjust???ÿ

?ÿ

Select by window.?ÿ?ÿ

Snap toggles settings.?ÿ?ÿ

Carlson's message board can also be helpful...

I haven't used Intellicad in years, but I'll take a stab at it, at least the part about window selection. First, a question. Do you mean selecting by implied window? Meaning if your pickbox doesn't pick an object, it switches to a window? If so, implied window is what you probably need to find. Look in your Options, Selection tab, and there should be a checkbox for that. If there isn't, I would suggest going old school style (at selection prompt, type W?ÿto go into window selection mode).

Other selection options at the prompt:

  • C=crossing
  • R=remove
  • A=add (after switching to remove)
  • F=fence (not sure Intellicad allows this)
  • WP=window polygon (same as above)
  • CP=crossing polygon (same again)
  • ALL=all

On your snap issue, do you mean osnaps? I'm not exactly sure what your problem is.

?ÿ

Yes, I just mean that usually, you can simply pick the "osnaps" (sorry I just call them snaps)?ÿ like?ÿ Node, endpoint and perpendicular, for example.(because those are the three I use most)?ÿ

?ÿ

?ÿThen F3 toggles them On/Off.?ÿ ?ÿ

For some reason, it seems to have worked that way on a few drawings, then I must have tweaked something that is making the software react differently and I can't figure out how to Un-tweak it!?ÿ?ÿ

Yes, I've been reverting to the old school "w" but that seems very clunky these days.?ÿ ?ÿThanks for the tips, I'll check that out.?ÿ As I said, I'm sure it's a toggle somewhere that I clicked and didn't realize the implications.?ÿ?ÿ

Does SHIFT-RT (or maybe LEFT) CLICK bring up any helpful options?

@andy-j

Yeah my recollection of working in Intellicad is that I had to do a lot of things in clunky, old school style.?ÿ

@andy-j Right click on the osnaps icon in the lower right toolbar and it should bring up a list of snaps. You can check or unchecked as needed.?ÿ I keep end point and a couple others toggled on all the time. I use shift right-click to bring up the list on the fly for the less used snaps.
