Is there any reason that I can't change the line type in Layer Properties Manager?

Nothing is locked, frozen or off. I just want to make my CTR and CTRINDEX layers dashed by layer rather than having to change them individually, or by window crossing etc..

Shouldn't be. You can double click the line and another editor box come up and change the line type there.

Click on the linetype in the layer dialog box.

Another box appears, you can change the linetype for the layer here.

If it's not in the list, pick LOAD and scroll to a linetype file and pick it, now you should have more choices.

Well, I say that. CTR and CTRINDEX are layers generated by Carlson, and as such, may not be able to be changed.

no reason

are you using this in Win 7?
I have some occasional issues with the layer manager w/ Cad 06 in Win 7. If so, highlight both using CTRL or SHIFT, then try it. seems to work better on groups...

can you change any other layer attributes, how about for other layers?

I can change colors, turn on, off, freeze, and lock, but that's it. I cannot change the line type (in the Layer Properties Manager) or the line weight. There was a time when I could do these tings!

Try hitting the APPLY button in the layer properties box, then close layer properties. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Frustrating.

Don,
I think you've generated a 3D polyline with your contours. If you don't mind changing all your countour lines then, this is what i'd do. Select your layer's manager
box and edit the line type under CTR. I've never tried that but it might work.

Another possibility is if they are indeed 2d polylines (3d polys will not display linetype) and there are many vertices, the dashes wouldn't show up unless the plinegen varible was set to 1. After the contours are created you can still modify them under properties, linetype generation and select "enabled".

carlson 2008 survey layers solution

ok don, i came up with this last night when internet was down, so i am posting it now

1. if you open a new drawing, can you create the layers CTR and CTRINDEX, then modify their attributes?

2. then create a layer state, export it, import it into your drawing with issues.

B. otherwise, i would suggest purging and auditing (or use Carlson's Drawing Cleanup)

C. final attempt, WBLOCK the drawing into a new drawing

D ready to give up? isolate the layers and change the properties.
