Is there a way to just freely type codes without being harassed every time it doesn't match an existing code? I've tried the attribute method, but it is also more cumbersome than freely typing in a code and some of that data is getting lost in translation anyway when I generate an ASCII file.
I would just improve the code list, but sometimes it just wouldn't work. I am not going to add every possible wetlands flag number, utility pole number, or markout pipe size to the list.
Dan,
There are two ways to code in SmartWorx. One is with a codelist and one is without a codelist. The differences are:
With codelist – you must have the code entered in the codelist to select it. If you do not have a code you must create it. The system forces you to have all codes in the list. The advantage of this is that with every job the codelist is embedded in the data job. This allows the job to be transferred to any other Leica device and still have all of the information. This is why the system is setup in this manner if you choose to use a codelist. Obviously you cannot edit a code and in cases such as yours if you have multiple variations of the code you must create a unique code.
Without a Codelist – The code field is always open and you can manually type whatever you want into the code field. If you have many variations of the a code and do not want to use attributes then this is probably the best way to handle the issue.
To set the system to not to use a codelist (manually type in codes)….
1. From main menu select the USER icon
2. Next choose Work settings…
3. Next choose Coding & linework
4. Uncheck the top line “Use a list box to view codes”
Now you manually type in each code.
!!!! If you choose to do this method I would change this option in your Working Style so this will always be the same within the Working Style you set.
Error – for does not match exiting code….
If you have say uploaded an ASCII file that has codes for staking and you save the staked position with the same Point ID or if the point that is being located again has already been coded…
The system is basically telling you that the code for that point has changed and wants you to verify that the code is indeed being changed to the current code value. This is just a safety valve built into the software.
thanks.....I thought when I operated without a code list it gave me the same errors for new codes, but I will give it a shot with your directions.
Did you figure this out? Please post solution if so...
