First of all, let me just say THANK YOU for your faith in us. Your support in our crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo has shown us more than ever that you mean business. Well, so do we.
If you don't already know, we hit the initial goal. That is really great news, because it means we can upgrade this forum to something more sustainable and address most, if not all, of the feature requests submitted to us over the last 4 years.
The stretch goals allow us to go even further than that. We had some basic information about these stretch goals right from the beginning of the campaign, but now we realize that we needed to expand to provide more information about what we can really do at each level. So we've added more information at the top of the campaign so you can see what we're thinking.
Also, since there were some requests to add a commemorative beer mug, we've added it to the available perks.
Check out the campaign here: http://igg.me/at/surveyorconnect
Once again, THANK YOU for your support. You continue to amaze me.
Done!
Stretch Goal #1, Done
Yippy, beer mug!
Truly exciting stuff.
Done! Great to see the support.
And there's my little bit into the "tip jar".
Thanks for this incredible resource.

Congrats Wendell! That didn't take long.
I read your stretch list.
Why continue to bother with actual (i.e. physical) servers?
I strongly recommend you look into a cloud setup where you would no longer need to worry about stuff like hardware and infrastructure issues.
In the three cloud services I investigated, you can pick your own database and your own development platform. All of them support your PHP stuff so no worries there. (Along with a good number of other platforms I've never heard of.)
In the coming couple of weeks I'll be tasked with migrating an entire site and database to a cloud environment. This is a HUGE site (the biggest I've ever built - a couple hundred thousand lines of code scattered over a couple hundred pages and about a dozen sub-directories. The DB has about 100 tables. There are also about a dozen or system services (I'm not sure how that's going to work to be honest).
The other day we did some late night experimentation with a UDP channel. We're musing we might could do something cool like having a live, active dashboard type feature with streaming data.
Just my thoughts.
E
It is a leased server in the cloud.
Wendell,
I'm sure there are valid reasons but why do you need stand alone Apple and Android apps rather than software that works fine in a mobile browser?
I do a lot of viewing of this site from my iphone using Safari perfectly well. I could use Chrome but the only issue there is that I seem to have to log in each time whereas Safari keeps me logged in.
I'm also a member at forums.sailinganarchy.com and they use http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/ . This has a stand alone ios app already but I have found that this board works just fine in Chrome.
Keep up the good work and as I said in the other thread, I do not need anything sent to me for the donation.
Your efforts are MUCH appreciated.
Sebastian
Thank you for the feedback! This is a great question.
Many people prefer a standalone app that can be installed on a mobile phone, complete with icon and notifications on the phone itself (myself included). The new site will indeed by "responsive", which means that it can be viewed on smartphones, tablets, netbooks, laptops, etc. and look great. But it's not dedicated to mobile like an app would be.
Additionally, these standalone apps will have the ability to deliver other content such as news articles and more.
There is also a discussion about offering two different mobile apps -- one with mobile ads to help support the site and a commercial version that you pay for in the respective app store that also helps support the site.
Put mine in over the weekend! If this forum wasn't around, I'd probably have to work more!
Wendell, count me in, too. Keep up the good work!B-)

Two of the following three statements happen to be true today.
1: I will still respect you in the morning.
2: The check is in the mail.
3: I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.
No need to give me air miles or S&H Green Stamps or anything else.

S&H Green stamps! Really? Wow! I haven't heard about those in decades.
I would venture to say no one under the age of 50 would have a clue what that is.
Yo, Wendell
Really? I'm 42 and if I checked the junk drawer I could probably find some half filled books and some unglued stamps.
Yeah Andy,
but you have a trolly car and a forklift, too...
Yeah Andy,
No trolley cars this far south of the Mason Dixon.
Update request.
Emoticons with moustaches.
If you cross your eyes this could be a Freddie Mercury... :excruciating:
Yo, Wendell
Nice. But what you gonna do with them?
Bet you can't cash them in for a ride on Jeff's trolley car. 🙂
Yo, E
Not to completely derail the thread, but:
"We no longer have any redemption centers open, however, you can trade in your Green Stamps for greenpoints and redeem them for gift cards or gift certificates..."
