We have lost one of our 2-year programs in Iowa that was mostly online, with limited in class participation. The program was great, and will be missed.
I was approached by a high school senior in Iowa who is looking for some possible online degree programs. I believe that candidates for licensure only 'need' an Associate of Applied Science in Iowa in a related field. Are there any good programs you can recommend?
To compound matters, she will have an Associate of Arts degree when she graduates high school. Her ideal situation would be to find a college that would accept some of her general education classes so she could focus on surveying. She knows she wants to get licensed and do boundary related work. She is trying to avoid some of the schools that wrap a Civil Engineering Technology degree up with Surveying classes as she sees no reason to learn materials testing and some of those things.
I know somebody used to have a running list of programs across the country, but I couldn't find it. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time!
I'm not sure what programs offer Associates of Science Degrees in Surveying. UMAINE does not, only a certificate, BS, MS, PhD.
Colleges and Universities for Land Surveyors - SiteSurv University
I was able to find the list in the link above.
Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) in Kalispell, Montana has a completely online surveying associates degree. All surveying related courses are taught by licensed surveyors and any required lab work is required to be done under the supervision of a licensed surveyor.

Got mine from Vincennes University (1999) in Vincennes, IN. They still offer it along with a BS option now. The online option is there too.
Depending on where she is at in Iowa - Southeast Technical College is right across the border in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Their program is mostly in person though. New Mexico State University is another option for full online but requires some labs which would require working with a local surveyor to proctor or provide equipment I believe.
Cincinnati State Community College actually has a fantastic 4 year surveying degree that is online and incredibly affordable. In my opinion, a better applied education than a theoretical university. Last I heard, all 4 years and a sheepskin cost a grand total of $23,000. I don't know what they may or may not accept. Dr. Carol Morman is head of the program and a fine surveyor and human being.
East Tennessee State University has an online program.
