Enjoying my time in Costa Rica.?ÿ ?ÿKeep noticing boundary monuments, imagine that.?ÿ Very COVID aware here, and people are so friendly.?ÿ ?ÿWe had gotten our C-19 vaccination before leaving Alaska, return then get our booster.?ÿ People and business here really hurting from lack of gringo repats and tourists.?ÿ We're spreading dollars but everything costs far less than 1/2 of last January.?ÿ ?ÿFood unbelievably good.?ÿ Off to move to a new B&B and a few days fishing in Playa Jobo.?ÿ?ÿ

FYI, a young nurse I know has reported an odd circumstance on Facebook.?ÿ She received shot number one and a week or so later caught COVID, then had shot number two as regularly scheduled.?ÿ She is now experiencing hives.?ÿ She had suffered from hives as a kid but they stopped once she began taking routine allergy shots.?ÿ Her current thoughts involve whether or not the vaccine has somehow negated her allergy shots
I am trying to convince the family to go to Costa Rica in April, but the wife wants to go to Mexico (she is from Mexico and one daughter lives in Mexico).?ÿ
I have done two projects in El Salvador, and lived in Mexico, but have never been to Costa Rica. Looking forward to going there.?ÿ
A rash lasting from 24 hrs - 1 week is a documented but uncommon side effect of the vaccine.
I am trying to plan retirement in/near Tamarindo, on the west coast. Been there and it just feels like paradise.
@holy-cow?ÿ Allergy shots are targeted for the things someone's most allergic to at the time. The hives could be due to something different, or her tolerance has decreased over time to an allergen that was targeted in the shots if she's no longer taking them. CDC is reporting hives as a possible reaction.?ÿ
I took allergy shots when I was a kid through high school but not since. My allergies had flared up after not taking care of myself during grad school. Once I was able to get to an allergist after starting a job, he wanted me to start shots again. I had reacted to 72 out of 80 allergens including a bunch of foods (tomatoes, wheat, corn) that I had never had any issues with. I wanted to see how I did with a course of medications, more sleep, better eating habits, less stress, etc. I still haven't had to take allergy shots.
- @holy-cowni rashs, no side effects, less than a couple percent of have any adverse effects.?ÿ We have already been COVID tested negative once since vaccination, and will have to get tested again before entry back in US on the 8th.?ÿ Our second vaccine shot is the 12th.?ÿ?ÿ

Sunset at awesome restaurant on beach at Playa Heramosa last night

@northern surveyor. I??m envious. Spent 10 days at friends place in Playa Flamingo years ago fishing, golf w dad and brothers. ?ÿFresh fish, fruit and vegs!
I could see myself splitting my time between Costa Rica and Belize in winter and Alaska in summer once I get around to hanging up my vest.?ÿ
?ÿ
Had an epic day Fly-fishing in an all out gale of 30-40 knots.?ÿ ?ÿRide back home looked like Deadliest Catch in the Bering Sea.?ÿ ?ÿWe were soaked, 4 foot whitecapping seas.?ÿ But got 2 Permit (fish), a nice Red Snapper for dinner next two nights, a pompano, and a Jack Cravalle that about kicked my butt as we were out of the best shelter we could muster and heading home.?ÿ

I'd say you're a lucky man, Mike; but I don't think luck had anything to do with it ?????ÿ
You are the poster child for determination and hard work!?ÿ

In the 80??s and early 90??s I was young and took my surfing very seriously. I traveled to many places around the world surfing incredible waves in very remote locations. One of those trips took me to Costa Rica.
Tamarindo was a dirt track back then with one pay phone. I used it to call my then girlfriend back in the states to confirm my flight times and airport pickup. She told me some crazy story about OJ and a white Bronco. I hung up the phone and told my surfing buddies what she had told me. We all paused for a moment. Then one of my buddies said, ??I told you she was crazy. You have to breakup with her when we get back.? We all nodded in agreement and walked down to a barn on the beach and ate fresh grilled snapper, gallo pinto, plantains, and washed it down with an ice cold bottle of Orange Fanta.?ÿ
?ÿ
I also caught one of the best barrels of my life at Playa Hermosa a few days later.?ÿ
i don't want to bag on costa rica, as it is such a beautiful place, but i've been 3 times and unless a TON of free time (and money) heads my way at some point, i think i'll spend my travels seeing other places in central america.?ÿ?ÿ
there is no questioning the natural beauty there, and yeah- countless good breaks up and down the whole pacific coast, but it's just too... sanitized for my taste.?ÿ actually, my favorite spots in CR are all up in the mountains- little towns found when i got tired of nicoya and tamarindo and the margarita bars and ambient Bob FM radio music playing everywhere.
we've taken the kids to guatemala and all over oaxaca.?ÿ i've been itching to get to nicaragua for several years, as everything i've heard is along the lines of "it's what CR was 40 years ago."?ÿ i know we all are looking for different things, i just like going to central america to get away from north america.?ÿ you can go to CR and not know a lick of spanish and you won't suffer for 5 minutes.
anyways- here's a view out the front door of a cabina in one of my aforementioned favorite spots- maybe 30km south of the nicaragua border, couple hours east of Liberia.?ÿ that's a volcano off in the clouds.?ÿ we could walk out the end of the driveway, hang a left, and in 1/2 mile be at the crater of another one.
?ÿ
I have a friend that runs a surf camp in Nica if you are ever interested.?ÿ
One son-in-law went to Costa Rica twice to serve as a translator for the US client and her attorney as they attempted to bring to justice the guys who killed her daughter while on a Spring Break adventure from college.
Enjoyed our time near Vulcan Ricon, very wet, but deserted of tourists.?ÿ Drove to Monteverde today, stopped in Liberia to get COVID test.?ÿ This is a very touristed area, but not too busy now.?ÿ

Is there a chance that your friend is Scot Smyth on Little Corn Island?
Took a walk in eco nature preserve behind our new cabana in Monteverde, besides scenery, flora and fauna, couldn't help not finding property corners.
