I just a call from YP. They said they wanted to update my information. I have a free YP account already so I went through verifying everything to make sure it was correct. I was put on hold and sent to somebody else that started asking me questions. That's what clued me in.

I said is there a charge for this? She said yes, $499.

What in the world. The first lady told me I was just updating my information. I told the second lady no thank you,?ÿhave a good day and hung up.

Be careful out there. I've been getting anywhere from 3-10 telemarketers a day for the last several weeks. I don't know why. Somebody has sold my info I think. I even block their number and they just call back with a different number. Most of them are recordings.

One morning I got 10 calls before noon.

Related. I had a telemarketer call this morning (a recording), same area code and exchange, before 8 AM. I was awake but in the midst of getting my kids and me out the door. I was unamused. It was about lowering the interest rates on my credit cards. Considering that I pay everything off each month...

Yeah, I've been getting those "lower your interest rate" calls for years. Ask them which credit card. They don't actually know what your cards are and will try to steer you back to the script rather than answer.

I usually hang up, but one day recently I went with them for a while.?ÿ They asked me what my balance was and when I said zero, THEY hung up without a word.

Just as annoying is the person with a foreign accent and a boiler room chatter in the background who says they want to help you fix the problem with your computer.?ÿ I ask "Which compute?"?ÿ?ÿ Your Windows computer.?ÿ "Which Windows computer?"?ÿ They may say the one you use the most.

Nowadays, there is a newer twist.?ÿ If you keep asking how they know you have a problem, they will tell you a long alphanumeric code, and then?ÿ lead you through typing some commands that bring up that exact number.?ÿ Kinda scary.?ÿ The trick is that any machine with a recent Windows operating system will bring up that same number.

I used to ignore out of area phone calls, but I noticed a trend three or four years ago where an increasing number of the out of area calls where from prospective clients moving into the area.?ÿ Couple that with the fact that the telemarketing/scammer wankers are starting to spoof local numbers and I've come the conclusion that hiding from them just isn't possible.?ÿ So, I've decided to make a sport of wasting as much of their time as possible.

Robo call me and give me the choice of pressing 1 to talk to a human or 9 to be removed from your call list......I'm going to press 1 even if I'm sitting on the throne.?ÿ I waste as much of their time as possible and if they don't hang up before I get tired, I finish by informing them that I'm going to continue wasting their time each and every time they call me.?ÿ It's my current best plan for getting off their call list.

If you are not on my contact list don't expect me to pick up. Leave a message, or email me first, with your number, so I can add it to the list.?ÿ ?ÿLike you I'm getting several bogus calls a day.

Frustrating them and making them hang up is fun.?ÿ Making them curse at me is perversely satisfying.?ÿ Bonus points if they swear at me in a language other than English.?ÿ Triple bonus points if I can make them use a curse from their native language in English.?ÿ "Go have relations with your mother like you would with livestock" just doesn't carry the weight in English that it probably does in some other language.?ÿ Apparently, laughing at someone who is trying to offend you with curses or asking them to explain what they mean isn't appreciated either.?ÿ Who knew.?ÿ?ÿ

Yellow Pages is horrible. They often refer to themselves as YP also. I've worked with several clients over the years who fell for the website deal with YP, and they all got hosed. YP would register the domain name and then not give it up when the client wanted to move to a different service. So they end up getting a new domain name, but as you may already know, this is horrible for a business, since it affects your email, the SEO you've built up, familiarity, etc.

I highly recommend that you steer as far away from YP as you can. It's just one big scam and it amazes me that they've gotten away with it for so many years.

I spent my pre-surveying years working at my family's business.?ÿ This is back in the days before robotics calling was a thing.?ÿ When an unwanted sales call was answered, my uncle would tell them that they needed to talk to the purchasing manager and hand the phone to me.?ÿ It was then my job to keep them on the phone for as long as possible.?ÿ My record was over a half hour.

Yes, YP sucks. Decided to quit the yellow pages ad in the phone book for this year. Called?ÿ and cancelled and everything was OK until the bills started to arrive. (double last year's price) I called and asked them why, they said I was too late cancelling. I said to bad, I was told I was good, you won't get my money. Now all I send them is a copy of the same letter detailing why I won't pay. Been six months and they aren't giving up yet. Neither am I.

Yelp is the bane of my existence. Those people cannot seem to take no for an answer and are worse than Slippery Pete's Used Car Sales. High pressure sales tactics and refusing to let go.

Yelp is the bane of my existence. Those people cannot seem to take no for an answer and are worse than Slippery Pete's Used Car Sales. High pressure sales tactics and refusing to let go.

I had a terrible experience with Yelp. I owe them money now, just a little bit, but I am afraid to pay them because they will have my new card information. I had to cancel the old card number I gave them. It seemed the only way to get them to stop taking my money.

They were charging me a monthly fee while feeding me false information?ÿabout the leads and calls I was getting.

Out of 54 calls they said I got through them, only one was 10 seconds, one was 9 seconds, and the rest were between 1-2 seconds. I told them even at?ÿ10 seconds I can't get enough information out to even find out who the person is and what county the potential job is in. Their explanation?ÿwas that I must have missed all those calls. Of course, that's not possible. I always answer the phone, and if I'm not here somebody else does. Plus I have voicemail so they said that out of 54 calls not one of them left a message. Come on man!

Some credit card companies allow you to generate a one-time number. I've never used that option though.
