Getting kind of boring around here.
Just checking to see if anyone is awake.
I beat you. Wit a stick!

Speaking of ol' Hub
There was a surveyor that I believe employed Hub, at least part-time. I could tell by his posts (during Ty's arrest and trial) that he was completely blown away by the whole ordeal. Does anybody remember his name? Is he still around?
just wundrin'..
Speaking of ol' Hub
Gordon Bell.
Despite fighting his conviction as late as 2012, Ty is unlikely to get out or a long time. I believe he was sentenced to a total of 71 years.
Speaking of ol' Hub
Gordon Bell- he's active on Facebook.

Ty Evans AKA Hub Northing Reader's Digest version
For those who came to the board post-2005 (has it really been 9 years!?) Ty Evans is a fellow who posted regularly to the RPLS. com board under the pseudonym "Hub Northing" until he was arrested for, and subsequently convicted of, attempted murder. It seems he was caught in the act by police who had him under surveillance for a variety of fraudulent activities.

He had a few nutty replies to some of my comments back then. If you'll recall, he was staking "corners" for people to be able to build their fence by. He had an elaborate explanation about how he was not violating any surveying or licensing act. Everyone here thought and told him he was.
That was one of his main problems, he thought he was smarter than everyone else. I believe that's why his murder scheme failed too.

I couldn't agree more. He also had a website that criticized surveyors for charging too much to stake property lines. I don't know how Gordon Bell put up with him ...
We learned after the fact that the guy was basically a career criminal with a long arrest record.

He used to say that he only needed one more course to be able to be approved to take his exam for his PLS. He complained about the requirements, and said he refused to comply. In retrospect, I am guessing he had other felony convictions or something else that kept him from taking his exam. He was actually pretty smart with survey/boundary issues I thought.
He had also threatened a number of other posters here when they disagreed with him. Obviously a pretty volatile guy.

It was more about accountability and less about ability.
Because he couldn't sit for the exam, he loop-holed the law, and competed unfairly against licensed surveyors.
Some of us called him out, others defended him, and some others found him amusing, said little, but enabled him.

"I am guessing he had other felony convictions"
10 prior felonies according to the court records. That got him an additional 30 years on top of 40 that he received for the attempted murder charges.

Major Gordie was coming off a stint of post-911 active duty and no doubt was looking to reestablish his business. Hub was looking to legitimize his activities. It seemed like a good match, until the stuff hit the fan.

I once wrote something mildly critical of him and received a rather chilling personal email in response minutes later.

Yeah, I got one of those from him once too.

The "man" was a punk and got what he deserved....
You caught me off-guard!!!
When I saw the thread title my first was "WHAT!!????"
I spoke to him a few times on the phone before "the big event" went down.
He had said he had recently been to China and bought a Tai Chi coin he was going to send me. Shortly thereafter is when the "stuff" went down.
If I recall about his other felonies, most were in Kentucky regarding check fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, etc. I suppose that might could go down under a RICO statute. He claimed to me he had made good on all that stuff. But who knows?
I still wonder how he got 71 years on attempted murder. I have known 2 (two) convicted murderers. One guy did 15 on 30 and the other did 2 on 7. Both of them had caught their wives in bed with someone else. GA has a "crime of passion" thing and I can imagine that was their deal. I also have some distant kin who is currently doing 7 and last I heard they will make him do the full 7. He was chasing his girlfriend and some "other" guy down the highway shooting at them. I don't really know the details but have been told meth was involved so I imagine he was geeked up.
i hope dont have internet in prison .
If you check the 4th link I posted above, you'll see he got 40 years for attempted murder with a 30 year enhancement for being a habitual offender plus a year for resisting arrest
