Only one thing can be the most important thing involving any business, that is profit. Things like satisfaction, you can control which will effect profit or loss if not balanced properly, Demand is the result of the economy which few have any control over, the service offered which you can control by using luck and foresight, which will lead you to the proper conclusion about needs, "guessing right", will directly influence profit. All the catch phrases and good sounding ego building statements are just some of the tools used to create profit. Without profit you don't grow and will fail. Profit is the most important part of any business, be it surveying or building spittoons. With it you prosper, without it you fail. A case of what is thought to be a broad subject where thousands of words can be wasted, turns out to be one word.

My response to the poll was simply "demand". Simply put, without demand for my service, I would have no business and therefore no chance of making a profit. Nuff said.

The most important thing to me is that I can take off on vacation for a month and have no worries about clients.

That's what business is in my world...making money.

I have staunch professional ethics. I do not feel unworthy of my fees and I am not above making a good profit. It's a necessity.
