This post card came to me in today's mail. I wanted to post it because we don't often get a direct advertisement of pay scale. This position supervises a staff of over a dozen people, maybe more, including a number of PLS's. The annual departmental budget is probably well over $2m.
In this case I think that the pay may be a bit on the light side for this area, but the benefits are very generous.
You piqued my interest.
3 vacation days a month? No wonder I have such a hard time getting a hold of government employees.

2 PTO days, 1 sick day, and 10/12th of a statutory holiday per month, on average. So, yes. That's a great perk of government work. On the flip, the pay range is, perhaps, a bit lower than comparable private side jobs, given the responsibilities. Note that they have resorted to mass mailing to generate applicants.
Another perk, you get to go home at 1700 hrs and don't have to worry about where the next job is coming from.

Having gone back to work for government after 17 years in the private sector, where btw I had 3 vacation days a month, only I found out that if you actually used them, management would quickly determine that meant you probably weren't really needed. In the case of government, from my own experience the reason you probably have a hard time getting hold of someone, is they are most likely chronically understaffed and doing the work of three people.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
