No - in the 70's you waited an HOUR to find out there was no gas...

Only a few times. I usually didn't have a problem.

I was living in Pasadena, Texas during the gas shortage.?ÿ It was really ironic to be sitting in line at a gas station within sight of dozens of million gallon tanks full of gasoline.

The last time I witnessed a station with no gas to sell was on the afternoon of September 11, 2001.

When people cannot get to work because of gas prices, what then?

@dmyhill not only that, housing costs have skyrocketed in most of California, full time workers in San Diego are sleeping in their cars in designated and fenced parking lots. The economy dependent on low wages coupled with high cost of living is a house of cards crumbling right now.

My difficulty is understanding the gross distant price relationships based on region.

Unless the gas stops flowing, how do the $2.50 increases in Calif make any sense to say the $0.50/ gal increase in colorado?

im not seeing the relationship other than transportTion gouging, and the cost to send via pipeline doesnt go up at all.

bizarre.

@jitterboogie What I have heard is that California has a special fuel mixture so it has limited sources and there are some extra taxes. The extra cost in the big cities like LA are probably due to high land cost in addition.

I filled up about 2 weeks ago @ ~3.50 Mid-grade, and that should last me until sometime in May or early June. Hopefully the price will go down by then, BUT I'm not going to bet on that!

Back "in the day," I drove 25 to 50 thousand miles a year, so gas prices made a big difference in my bottom line. Now days I drive less than 10 miles a week, so the price of gasoline is a lower priority than the price of Natural Gas that keeps me from wearing a parka and moon boots around the house.

@mkennedy?ÿ

seasonal and jurisdictional blends aside, they are the single biggest population of the country, so im guessing its farther down the tree than that.

@jitterboogie?ÿ

According to this, CA gas tax is 67 cents per gallon, the nation's highest. In NC, it's 36 cents which puts us at 14th highest. Of course, the taxes are losing importance as the base price skyrockets.

@mathteacher?ÿ

Duly noted and understood.

its the base price that is seemingly highly variable, and last i read anything at all about petroeum futures contracts, they ran on tem year snap shots, and nit spot pricing based upon emotional and marketplace fear.

im out of the loops.

?ÿ

waiting to when or if gas hits 6 bucks a gal in Colorado.
