Used surveyor stamp-Ebay

Good question. I could see some nefarious person wreaking considerable havoc with something like these, forging documents, etc.- they should be as thoroughly "protected" by the owner or estate, as caps or shiners should with the no-longer-active PLS number on them.

There was a post last year or so with an eBay link to survey caps with a PLS that no longer was employed with the company or deceased; the listing got pulled if I recall correctly. Wouldn't hurt for this one to have the same... however, a museum or historic display is a good idea IMO.

But, there are a few, who think they are surveyors, but cannot pass the test...

I just cant even imagine why someone (besides a criminal) would even be interested in these?

I think it should be reported to ebay and KS board.

Could someone want it because they new the surveyor or knew of his reputation? Could the age and date of the stamp be of significance? I mean as long as I'm not using it to commit fraud, or something, maybe it could mean something to someone.

Ron Bonjour's Kansas license was "cancelled" in 2010. An Iowa address is listed.

When I got my original Maryland seal I had to email the company I bought it from a copy of my license. The last two I just filled in my name and license number online and had a stamp in three days. No verification whatsoever; paid with a company credit card and had them shipped to my office so there was no way for them to know if I was who I said I was.

That said, if I were going to commit fraud, I'd probably go with a Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme rather than banging out fake mortgage surveys at $125 a pop.

I don't like the idea of any professional's stamp being sold to someone else, but as for doing harm, I don't think it would make much difference. I've never had to prove that I was licensed when I bought a stamp. It would be just as easy for anyone (in my area at least) to simply order a stamp with any random surveyor's name on it.

Ronald West Bonjour died in 2010. Both his PE and his LS licenses expired earlier that year. Our paths crossed a few times during his years in eastern Kansas. I knew who he was when I saw him but that was about it. He served as County Engineer in multiple locations through the years, ending up in Iowa.

Please do not research his name on Google. Let the past stay in the past. I'll simply say that I want no connection to that stamp.

About three counties from the hometown and three from present home.

His problems seem to be mostly personal behavior. I know nothing of his surveying quality.

To the best of my knowledge he was a very competent professional both in engineering and surveying.

One of my employees has his late grandfather's stamp sitting on his desk. He keeps it for sentimental reasons obviously, but I wonder if he hadn't worked in the industry what the estate may have done with it. I would hate to see the name of a great PLS and a great company damaged by fraud. Maybe I'll put a clause in my will that my stamps are to be destroyed, or maybe buried with me? I might need work wherever I wind up 🙂
