This morning most of this great country is gripped tight by ol' man Winter. Probably a good time to take care of business indoors with some serious monitor screen time...

No winter on the west coast. I spent the weekend working in the high Cascades with only the occasional snow bank to be found. It is going to be long dry summer out here not to mention the bug population.

west coast

My oldest son was in Huntington Beach late last week. The TV said they were under a "Winter Storm Warning". It dropped to 56 degrees with a 1/4 inch of rain. He said folks at his work were wearing parkas...:pinch:

He arrived home in Denver on Saturday to some weather a little closer to "wintertime".

Agreed. 10 feels like 1 now and will get worse as the wind increases. Plus there are almost microscopic bits of ice floating down all over the place.

Snow became rain this morning. It is supposed to be up to 45 today. What a sloppy mess with the massive amount of snow already on the ground.

I've a foot and a half of winter's finest in the dooryard right now, with more on the way.

Along about Wednesday the 'phone'll be ringing off the hook with requests for emergency surveys.......

Yup, we are seeing many large old growth pine trees dying from the drought.
Unfortunately, it may be a few more years until we get the weather that we need.

Hopefully this will help some of California..

Weather Channel forecast

I do think the weather channel hypes the forecast though.

Last year a major part of the snowpack came very late in the winter - in February. May be happening again this year.

Right now we just are not getting the cold temps we need at the higher elevations.

Both of our ski parks are closed.

Basically I think about it this way - there is only so much snow to go around. If somebody else is getting a bunch, we are probably not going to get very much.

Every summer, usually late July or early August, my family spends a week or so in the Yosemite high country. In wet years the mosquito population is just hitting its stride during this time, but in dry years the snow is long gone and the mosquito breeding areas with it. That makes for a nearly bug-free experience. So while I lament the effects drought has on the ecosystem and the economy, as a hiker I love it!

Crazy upside down weather

Just checked. It is warmer in parts of British Columbia than in northern Arkansas.

Every time I hear of someone talking about surveying and the weather, I remember what Phil Reed wrote on the previous forum.

One summer day he said he sent everyone home because man wasn't made to work outside when the temperature was over 83 degrees.

Ha ha ha

I just got my principle handed back to me in the form of quitting a pretty good well paying job back in the home land of MI due mostly to weather. The weather did not coincide with the owners plans. I do not do sub zero or bad traffic in bad weather because most bimbos are on the cell phone. Weather, yea. Traffic, yea. Bimbos on cell phones in bad weather, no.

I was the "field guy". I thought I was the "surveyor". I went from a good 40 - 50 hr job to about 15 - 20 in about a week. Cut bait.

My solution was I can do lots and lots and lots, and more lots of office work. Their solution was we only want you for field work.

Bad call across the board. Both our bads

I got even though. I called on my weather juju patron from up high to put the bad winter syndrom on the entire state of MI. Didn't mean to take down the whole NE corridor, but I guess it just sucks to be them. (Don't like their sports teams either, but kudo's to the Pat's)

I sat in my shorts & tank top here in sunny AZ, watching the super bowl and gobbling those ribs. Hope you Nor'easters love the snow bunny burgers. Enjoy your snow bunny burgers and thank me..... 😉

That would bring a whole new meaning to "Christmas rush". That would be the only time it was cool enough down there to work.

Snow Bunny Burgers?

What the heck are "snow bunny burgers?"

We in New England tolerate our winters because we are a stoic bunch. And as puritan descendants we understand that we must work to enjoy our fun. We take winter so we can have our New England spring, summer and fall. We enjoy and embrace change, and adversity!

Maybe not quite like our brethren in ND,MN etc, but sort of like that! 🙂
