Will a R8GNSS RTK unit with radio save RTK shots onboard the R8 without the data collector? If all it would do is record lat/lon and elev or any set of coordinates in any format I'd be fine. Need to end up with 3d position once a second recorded onboard. No descriptions needed.

But that would mean my Trimble software which won't function anymore since whatever date that was will have to be replaced by the new software, right? Is there a less expensive way to do it?

If all you need is two positions just do static... You have two recivers right??? If you need three, do three.

I may be mistaken but the R8 has to be controlled by a field computer for RTK. Carlson, tds, Trimble SC or access all fit the meter.

Yes that's how I understand it.

You want to collect points in RTK mode without the data collector, then dump it into a software program that will process it.

Unless there is something I don't know that can't be done.

I'm afraid you need TBC.

Anyway that's what I did

Check into NMEA output. R8's (and other receivers) can be pre-programmed to do hands-off tasks, but the programming interface is deeper in than the stock manual reveals. It is commong to do an NMEA output directly to other gear like hydro or mobile positioning. Bug support mightily, and someone zshould be a ble to talk you through those settings. It was many years ago but they hepled us through that to get NMEA (I forget what flags in GGK or GGQ) without the DC.
Will try to dig through some drawers to see if I took notes but we don't have that old R8 anymore.

Thanks all.

How much does TBC cost. Is it downloaded? The Trimble site confuses me.

Last time I asked the full price was $6000. But a shrewd buyer could negotiate down to the $3000 range rather easily. The very basic HCE version is a free download.

Norman,
THANKS. Will the basic version that is free download kinematic baselines and compute them?

How much is the annual subscription to the full-blown software?
