... whenever there is a 6' fence on the property line, the corner is always on the other side.

Is it just me? Statistically speaking, there must be some surveyor out there that balances me out and always finds the corners on his side of the fence...

I'm not that guy. I find that not only are the pins on the wrong side of a 6' fence, there's usually a dog and a locked gate over there.:-D

If you are at a four-way fence corner it will always be 2 tenths into the yard diagonally behind the one you are Surveying.

I did that once and saw the pin at ground level. I took the rod and held it to get the shot.....then while bring the pole to my side of the fence it fell. I ended up having to hop the dang thing anyway.

I had a client that built the fence first then called me later. Turns out the line is about a foot in his neighbor's yard. He didn't care that much but he needed the line to layout his setbacks from. His choice was to take a board off the fence so we could reach through and set the line point nominally in his neighbor's yard. Whenever he wanted to measure over from my line point he would take the board off, measure then put the board back on. I could've given him offset points in his own yard but I think he was smart in realizing that could lead to confusion really fast, better to have the point on the line.

Very early in my surveying "career", the PC told me to hop over this 8' fence for some topo shots in some guys yard. Looked over the fence and there was a Rottweiler waiting on the other side. Refused to go, so he got all huffy and grabbed the rod and jumped over. Rott ate him a new @$$!! Never did like that PC anyway! What sweet memories!:-D
