And that's the truth, when you are hungry for knowledge, no matter what age, you never stop learning. How many here ever knew the interior of Stone Hinge contained a ƒ??vernierƒ? which indeed it does. Even at my age (I'm in the disposable group) I'm still learning. Especially here. ?????ÿ

Happy Monday from a retiree. Getting ready to watch "Leave it to Beaver" while y'all are worrying yourselves crazy. ?????ÿ

I did not know that; learn something new every day...

Cows generally live in herds.?ÿ Herds are strongly hierarchal units.?ÿ There will be a leader (boss cow).?ÿ There are the sub-leaders as well.?ÿ If the herd scatters over a wide area and a reason to move to somewhere specific (crazy human shows up to deliver food), the boss cow will be among the first to notice.?ÿ The boss cow will lead the way, closely followed by the sub-leaders from across the wide area.?ÿ The followers ( the meek) will follow, even if they have not seen with their own eyes why they should be moving.

Various terms exist for this alpha cow, e.g., boss cow, lead cow, bell cow.

It means that when I take the work truck with the business name on the side to the trap club on Sundays I'm usually going to spend at least a half hour of my day off discussing surveying with a drunk trap shooter.

On the other hand, I do pick up jobs this way, so I always try to be polite and answer their questions.

@holy-cow?ÿ

I really enjoy watching cattle herd dynamics when I'm scooting around in their pastures.?ÿ There's really a lot more going on than one might think.

As is usually the case, when a truck enters their pasture the cattle think "oh boy, he's here with the chow".?ÿ When it becomes apparent that's not the case they get a little confused.?ÿ Watching their reactions is interesting.?ÿ While most of the cattle I run into aren't really very vocal, every once in a while I run into a herd leader that seems to be scolding me with her bellering.?ÿ I've often wondered if she's trying to tell me I'm "not doing it right".

The other day I was walking through a pasture with the herd all watching me with some interest.?ÿ There was a hot wire strung between the utility poles I was locating, but it was higher than waist high to me.?ÿ This meant calves could wonder under it with impunity.?ÿ One did.?ÿ He apparently thought I needed closer scrutiny.

Momma took exception to this and commenced to calling at him but she avoided the hot wire.?ÿ ?ÿShe was getting a little excited.?ÿ I was finally able to get him in a position I could 'scoot' him back under the wire without momma thinking I was after him.

BTW - These animules were apparently of the Wagyu variety and (according to their owner) carried a hefty price tag.?ÿ I couldn't see anything special about them.?ÿ They looked like Angus to me.?ÿ Maybe their eyes were a little closer together.

If I found one of them out wandering in the road I would have no idea how much they are apparently worth.?ÿ

It means you read dusty old books, and wear dusty old boots, and read technical stuff late at night for fun, not because you're tired.?ÿ It means you value the scientific method, but you know when to apply judgement in spite of the science.?ÿ It means you are likely in better shape than many of your peers.?ÿ Being a surveyor often means that you are good with tongue in cheek humor (at least in my experience, particularly on a certain survey message board 😉

It means, sometimes you wake at night, with a better solution, than what you were going to use.

Wow Nate!?ÿ When did Marvel start including Super Hero Surveyors in their collection??ÿ I'd like to invest in that animated series, was there a decoder ring used to interpret unwritten intent, xray vision to find monuments not anywhere near deed calls or total recall to re establish the locations of obliterated monuments??ÿ There is no such thing as an unfoolable human, mistakes have always happened and always will.?ÿ ?ÿ
